ballistic calculator

I personally do not and never did use any ballistic apps and just put targets out at various distances and see actual hits to compensate for trajectory that's how I label the turrets for clicking for click worthy scopes. Been doing it for decades the old fashioned way so I pretty much just know what the trajectory drops are based on caliber and weight and speed owning a lot of guns of all different power levels.

Getting too technical about things takes all the fun out of airgunning especially if you have OCD chronic have to waste pellets and chrony everything disease OCD everything gotta be under 10fps max spread syndrome you always think your guns broken even when its happy and accurate the way it is That's still MOA capable with a 40fps spread at 100 yards.

I agree Tipton. We use our radar and balllistic calculators all the time. We validate everything, usually in 10yd increments but mark our turrets every five yards. With both of my boys and I shooting and validating, it would take forever without ballistic calculators to get us close to start. I guess it has to do with how far you like to shoot, with how many guns, and how many different projectiles. My boys and I each use pellets but at different velocities and different slugs each. I can’t remember all that! I’d be lost without a radar and ballistic calculators!

I use Shooter, Strelok, BallisticARC and Chairgun Pro. For airgun use, Chairgun Pro is easy and does a great job at accurate calculations, the ability to make turret tapes and scope cap, reticle drop cards...And it’s free!

Ballistic apps are the best thing since sliced bread. I use ChairGun and Strelok Pro. Contrary to some of the above, walking out ten yard increments for every pellet/slug at all the various speeds and elevations is totally impractical. I agree if all you do is shoot out to 100 yards with the same ammo at the same speed at the same location it makes sense. But the real world generally isn’t like that and if you’re hunting various locations in various temperatures with various ammo at various distances greater than 100 yards, then a ballistic app is invaluable...

It's a matter of preference.

I like the numbers game. Plug them in. Get shooting solution out.

Look at different what-if scenarios -- heavier pellet, slower high BC slug, range of HP pellet for expansion, etc. etc.

I use Strelok Pro. It's a very powerful app once you set it up. Too bad Hawke dropped the ball on ChairGun -- it would be such an amazing app had they continued to develop it. As a program for PC it's still better than anything out there. I'm just not walking around with a PC....

For me it is simply piece of mind. Enter all the info, validate the data.

Then I can switch pellet weight or brand and know that I can dial the scope back to a known zero. Probably not everyones cup of tea, but I find the experience rewarding and beneficial.

When switching between ammo I reset the turrets and take a few test shots just to be confident.

Tip: if using strelock pro, you can get a reticle image with your specific scopes hash marks and distances. Take a screen shot and send to the photo print shop. Then cut and tape to the side of the scope or inside the rear flip up scope cover.
