Backyard springer ratting (graphic)

Good day, I put up a bird feeder a few months ago and noticed some rats at night on the feeder. I got a Nitesite NS50 off of craigslist a while ago and mounted it on my Benjamin .22 springer. I upgraded the spring and piston in this gun so it shoots heavy pellets 25.4gr at just under 500 which is plenty for close range carnage. The Hawke scope on there now I just got and it's going on the Royale 500 that should be here Monday. Usually just have the Centerpoint 3-9 which I have zero complaints about.

Popped his eye out, no pass through I measured him below. This is the biggest i've shot.

I've gotten maybe 10 total, and just took pics of a few of the big ones and good shots. I've also gotten 24 squirrels(grey) with this gun at a local place where I set up a feeder, where I live they are on a "kill anytime and anywhere" list no license and no season on them. Looking forward to getting a PCP, here I had to get my firearms license to get above 500fps and have to treat it as a firearm.

We have many raccoons in the city here but we can't shoot them or anything and I don't know if I would want to. But I usually leave the dead rats out and clean them up in the am, but now the raccoons are eating them! I found just the skin and fat turned inside out in the morning. If they want to eat the dead rats I have no problems with that haha.

While working in an oil refinery in Washington state, sometime back in 2012 or 2013, one night a co-worker and I saw a HUGE, and I mean H U G E !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rat while working on a remote hydroblasting and truck cleaning pad near a remote, quiet side of the refinery, with a few large sections of undeveloped fields in the surrounding area...

We were working, and movement from just across the road, behind an empty, parked semi truck flatbed trailer caught my eye. There was a large drainage ditch right near the trailer, behind it along the other side of the road.

We looked, and at first, were expecting a deer? Deer sightings in the refineries in Washington are common, as well as geese. We'd jokingly refer to them as "radioactive deer" and "toxic geese", etc. 😄

Anyway, for a second it looked like a large dog or wolf, but we continued watching as it crawled out underneath the trailer, into the middle of the road for a few seconds, then darted back into the pipe of the drainage ditch (large 3 foot or so pipe!)

It was a rat, a GIANT #@**ing RAT, the size of a large husky dog or full grown wolf, at least 3 1/2-4 foot long, 1 1/2 to 2 feet tall!!

No joke, no exaggeration! If I'd had a camera on me and taken a picture, no doubt I'd be a rich man!

It was one of the most horrifying things I've ever seen in my life!

My co worker and I stood there for about 5 minutes after it disappeared, our jaws on the floor. Both of us discussed how we wished we had a serious rifle or pistol on us. We radioed someone else, some other co-workers in another unit of the refinery, but they didn't believe either of us, they thought we were just making stuff up?

It was like something out of a cheesy horror flick, but it was very REAL!!

I'll never forget seeing that thing!!

Well what i'm seeing is 8-10kg which is up to 22 lbs and 1.4 meters in length (4 feet plus) but yeah could be a chupacabra. YIKES

No luck the last couple nights, I usually sit out there from 9:30-10:30 and haven't seen anything the last while. I think they're getting smart and waiting till its too late to shoot. I do have permission to shoot at a friends 25 acre farm so I might hit that some evening when I get the Royale.

I chose the laminate, I was a bit torn up because I do love the look of that Walnut. But the day I decided, the laminate was actually 50$ cheaper and came with the FX hard case. So it worked out to 1450 USD after conversion tough to beat that. I do like the look of that synthetic but I shoot left so the sharp comb on my cheek wasn't an option. It's the Canadian model so it doesn't have a shroud and I'm expecting a muzzle brake kind of looking thing.

I will take some pics, looks like it arrives Monday!

If it was an old chupacabra, my coworker and I are very lucky, indeed! To have survived the sighting lol. After our initial shock wore off, we scrambled to get some makeshift weapons we had at our disposal, stuff like shovels, lengths of metal pipe, etc. We checked out the area, but the thing had crawled into the drainage ditch pipe, and no way either of us was going in there?

If it was a chupacabra, those things are known to be fast, and it might've been behind us at all times, stalking us? 😨😨😨😨😨😨😨😱😱😱😱😱😱👽👽👽💀💀💀💀💀💀💀

Well another victim today, I am trying out these Jumbo Straton 25.4 grain pellets for the springer. They must be around the 500ish (heavy pellets in this gun make it not a "firearm" here) or less range but hit like a hammer at close range. Got a full pass-through at about 15 yards (which is pretty rare for this gun)

I always haul them to this same spot for the pictures and to let the raccoons find them easy on their nightly walk through the yard.

Unfortunately don't have much of a choice, I live in a city and here they can only be killed if they're destroying your property etc. Would put a quick end to my backyard action if I got caught. That said if it was just me and them yes I would grease them all.

Schedule "B" lists animals that may be captured or killed only for the specific purpose of protecting property unless an open season is designated by regulation (see Regional Schedules for open seasons):

(l) Procyon lotor - raccoon
