August's #monthlytargetchallenge !!!

I have to say, the five can challenge is an absolute blast. I decided to do it off hand, just for fun. It’s something I enjoy. And I like putting myself in the moment of competition. Believe me, when it comes down to shots four and five and you’re videoing yourself at distance...The heart rate jumps up and it’s just like being at a match, maybe more.

The distances of the shots are as follows: first shot 98 yards, second shot 90, third shot 83 fourth shot 75, fifth shot 67. All laser ranged.

One of the shots didn’t explode the can like the rest. I barely hit the top of the can. You can see it shoot water but it’s not the same reaction. That’s where the luck comes in.

I shot my 20 foot pound Steyr field target rifle. Pellets are some old school sorted Crossman heavies from 1999. I had them left over from nationals. I don’t normally sort-ever. Scope is a March 10-60, I have it set on 50.

I did this four times today on video. This one was the best. I’m going to post them all on the main forum under Shooting the Breeze

if my entry is disqualified because I took so long, I’ll plead offhand. I did it much quicker when I started at 45 and ended at 67. It’s a little tougher when you get way out there. It’s still a very short 3 min. In between shots I had to adjust the scope for distance, and then try to settle in.

That was an old school reply wasn’t it? Last year at EBR Van & his sister (socalairfles) we’re eating ice cream & they both looked so cute sitting with their parents. As ice cream was running down their chins I said, This is a Kodak moment & I took their picture. Van asked his father what a Kodak moment was. Just put a date on me. Probably won’t be the last. Target Shooting Challenge – August

Airgun: Gamo Hornet Maxxim, scope is sig sauer airgun-1-4x24WR

Caliber: .22 JSB exact

Position: standing no support

Distance: MtnDew at 15 yards and 25 yards, Kickstart at 35 yards, 45 yards, and 55 yards.

I tried to film but failed to film. The setting of video on that 8 years old camera was wrong. It was on high-speed setting, and it only recorded 20sec or less. By the end of the recording, I haven't loaded my air rifle. I took some pictures after finished shooting.

The camera was about 5 yards from the first target.

Targets were emptied, but I pour some water in it to prevent wind blow them down. Second to fifth targets were hit but not down.

I am not sure about the time of the shooting because the recording failed, but I am pretty sure it's over 3 mins. Neighbors passed by and I need to stop and wave to them 2 to 3 times.

The first target hit the bottom of the can with one shot. On the second target, I missed one shot but hit the second attempt. Third to Fifth targets hit with one shot. I did take my time to aim.

The view from where I shot.

5 targets the last one is close to the root of tree next to Crosman squirrel target(Green and orange can).

That was fun, and actually I was surprised that I got the last two with one attempt each.

Usually, I will twist the rifle when I pull the trigger and miss the target a lot. XDD

I really wish that did not mass up with the setting on recording... I might try to video again ...

This is my second entry for this challenge. Seeing Michael & Chuck's really pumped me up!

My range is again 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 (shy 1 foot) yards. I'm shooting with a Crosman 1077 (wood stock) with only a single mod - I recrowned the muzzle. My scope is a Swiss Arms 3-9x40. I utilized Centerpoint 1" rings, medium height, for 3/8" dovetail. (I have 4 of these scopes and really love them!). Once again I'm shooting Crosman 10.5gr Premier Crowned pellets with a super light application of FP-10, using Crosman 12g CO2 cartridges.

The scope just arrived today - the gun has been sitting here for 2 weeks waiting for it because I can't shoot with iron sights any more - old eyes. After mounting it I spent about an hour dialing it in. It still has a little bit to go, but at least the windage is really close now.

It took me 6 rounds to drop the 5 cans in 16 seconds. The first shot is fired (the miss) at 0:47, the last at 1:03.

My brother asked me why I fool around with "cheap toy guns" like a 1077. Because, obviously, they're a challenge. The 1077 doesn't hit nearly as hard as my Umarex Ruger 1022 or Beeman 1085 QB 2. But it doesn't take two CO2 cartridges, it has 12 rounds per mag, and it's fun.

And challenges like this one really add to the fun. I gotta say THANK YOU again!

Level of filming difficulty is a little higher since it’s at night so with that being said cans are a little hard to see. You can hear the pellet impacts so it should be good. Distances were 20-30-35-40-50...I am shooting an Airforce Condor .25 so it was a little slow going but at 37.64 seconds I would say it’s not too bad especially at night. It was a fun challenge!!!

The night video was an inspiration for me too. I figured I needed a darker situation to be able to see the laser well.

Here's my third entry. Still using the same 12 ounce cans.

My cans are set at 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 (shy 1 foot) yards. (I just moved up to the 10 yd mark on the same range from my previous videos). I'm shooting with a cheap Daisy 408 pistol, two-handed stance, standing. Usually I shoot right hand only, but not at 30 yards! I'm using a Crosman red laser to aim. I'm shooting Crosman 7.9gr Premier Crowned pellets with a super light application of FP-10, using Crosman 12g CO2 cartridges. The 408 had the muzzle recrowned, and the breech has a shim that boosted the velocity an incredible 90fps.

It took me 8 shots to drop the 5 cans in 13 seconds. The first shot is fired (first miss) at 0:13, the last at 0:26.

Actually, if you take into consideration all the practice I did, and the jams and misfires, it took me 35 minutes. But by that logic the first video took me 6 months :)

As I recollect, I had never shot this gun outside before, and the longest distance prior to tonight was 15-17 yards. I was actually quite surprised at how well the gun did outside. And yes, waiting a little later made the laser much more visible. When I first started half an hour earlier I could barely see it on the 30yd can.

Some more work is in order on the breech and indexing. I was experiencing a lot of misfires. I think I know why, so I'll play with that.
