Hey, all. As some of you may know, from my road trip tread, I recently became an owner of my first ever FX gun, a Wildcat MK2 in 30 caliber. Really liking this gun, like a lot!

Anyway, got a couple of questions on that synthetic soft touch stock. I’m trying to target folks that have added sling studs, pic rails, etc to their soft touch stocks. What is the best fastener to go about using on these? Pictured below was my plan, but after doing a test sample on an old synthetic stock off of a Remington 700 I’m not sure if it’ll work, cause the inserts I chose caused the edges around the hole to snap off, as you can see.

I was going to use the inserts, two for the pic rail, one for the sling stud. But need input cause I don’t think that’s gonna work. An owner of a local gun store in my small town told me to just screw it in, and for the bipod stud he gave me the one to the right, with the aggressive wood threads.

If just pre drilling and using wood type screws is the preferred method, where does one source nice, Allen head type screws that I’ll use for the picatinny rail? Should any two part epoxy be used, shoved inside the pre drilled hole, to aid in strength of the attachment?

My last question is painting the stock. Has anyone tried painting a soft touch stock? I contacted the vendor that the original owner bought it from and they were unsure themselves.

Id appreciate any input, and thank you.

I think it was Utah Airguns that had a video of an install and they sold the kit for the Picatinny rail for a bipod. I bought the kit and it works great. The kit had the rail, T-nuts and screws. Sling studs I did not use but I did change the upper rail with the Picatinny Wildcat rail and use a single point mount just like this....https://www.magpul.com/products/rsa-qd

I have yet to paint mine so IDK what it will take to remove the coating.

Neatly done! Been there, done that, but with widely varying results.

A body's got to be REAL careful when drilling into what appears to be a synthetic stock...they are not all the same. Oddly, some are plastic covered wood, some are solid plastic and heavy as hell, some are hollow plastic shells, and I have one that appears to be nothing more than compressed paper layers, glued like plywood, and covered with a hard plastic finish...

Be careful where you first drill...try somewhere invisible to the naked eye first!

I've used T-nuts on a few installations. In the photo above there is a description of 1/4X20. I my opinion those are too big and would require a larger hole drilled through the stock than necessary. I believe the one I used were 10-24 size, about the same as 3/16". Another option and I think it was Michael that used and suggested it used just a good pan head wood screw, preferably black. I used that method on my Crown laminate and it's been very solid. I think I used a size 8 and drilled a pilot hole to prevent any chance of splitting the stock. This method leaves a lot smaller permanent foot print on the stock.

Gratulations Bigragu to the FX

I plan to buy the Impact mk2

How is the FX in compare to the Bully

Jorgo! How you doing, brother? Doing well, I’m hoping.

The Bully is a beast, and it weighs appropriately for being a beast, and mine is at almost 14 lbs if not a hair more. It’s a keeper for me, for sure, but I’m limited to just shooting off a bench, or in a hunt situation, cross sticks. I don’t think any gun in a 30 can come close to the power it has, and now that I have a regulated 30 cal in the Wildcat, I think I’m gonna go back to the factory settings of 1075 FPS but only if the accuracy remains as is when I have it tuned to 875 FPS for 20 shots. Having said all that, let’s talk about how the Wildcat rules over this Bully:

Number one is weight. This WC is 6.5 lbs out of the box, vs. 10.5 with the Bully. Second, being regulated, the seller I bought it from says he was getting almost 30 shots at a steady 840 fps(this is with 44.75 grain pellets, which is all I use).

Third, the way it fires, it’s hard to describe. The Bully lets you know immediately when you fire it with a hammer slap ping noise, as you know. On this WC, the way I describe it is if you filled a balloon, way past it’s capacity that it was twitching with all this contained air pressure energy, and it suddenly popped, take away the noise or the jolt in your hand that you would feel. Now, I’m not talking about rapport sound from the shot, when I say take away the noise. What I’m meaning is just the quick release of energy, and bam! Your shot is at the target. It’s almost like it’s a surprise cause it fires so fast. Almost unpredictable. I guess you’ll have to fire one to see what I’m trying to explain.

As far as rapport, man, you know how loud that Bully is. So very loud. This WC, is actually pretty tame. Just like Travis at Utah Airguns told me, as he said to try the factory FX moderator that comes with it first, before I invest in an over priced moderator. It’s definately doable, but I’d like it more quiet like my Marauder with Tim Hills moderator. That thing is crazy quiet.

When you do decide to get one, get a hold of Heavy Impact here on AGN. He has designed some baffles that will work very well with that gun. He did some tests himself just the other day before shipping me the baffles. He tested them on his 30 cal impact, and after five shots he put up his DonnyFl Ronin up for sale, as the sound was half of what the aronin was doing. I’m excited to get those baffles, to see what it does on this WC.

Check out the two custom made parts that Jefferson State Air rifles makes for this WC, too. Very nice parts, for sure, and not just for bling, either. The scope rail is picatinny with three slots to hold three mags, and the other thing they make is a barrel shroud that bolts onto the pressure tube. It has three pic rails for bipod use and flashlight mounting.

itll be awhile till I get ready to target shoot with this, as I’m saving up for a scope. PM me if you have anymore inquiries about this WC

Sounds interesting...its a total other category of 30 cal than the Hatsan

Im impressed to read here about the accuracy with pellets from fx airifles

I have not those many options to buy my next airrifle like you in USA.

But Impact will be possible.

Maybe i wait till oktober then in serbia starts a weapon fair where i have my rifles.

I will see what i can choose

But impact mk2 is a real option in cal 30 with sparebarrel cal 22

Bigragu have fun at research and shooting your new gun

I have order from altaros a Bully 170 bar reg

I will post the report in end april how it works.

Maybe it helps some other owners

BR,

The synthetic stock on the FX Crowns is a soft material over wood. Your synthetic stock is pure whatever, polyethylene or whatever. Those inserts are WAY too big and to coarse to fit properly without chipping the dickens out of that material as you obviously found out. Regardless of material you need to start properly sized guide holes and work your way up to the final T nut bore size.

Here's a video of how B&T Industries mount rails using their T-Nut Kit (BT1517: Rail Mounting Fastener Set, $5) with one of their Pic rails.

At Jorge- before you go with the Altaros brand of regulator, check out Huma. They just came out with a reg for our Bully bottle guns, but I believe it only goes up to 150 BAR? If you do go with the Altaros, let me know, to satisfy my curiouisity. I used to try and make it my mission to find a reg for our bully’s, but then finally gave up and was content with the 20 steady shots. Now that I have this regulated WC I’m going to up the speed of the bully, and hope for at best 15 shots at a steady velocity.

I don’t blame you for choosing the Impact. I held one in my hands for the first time last week, and man that is a beautifully made gun. I even got to shoot it, and it’s got s slight kick to it.

At BDX- yeah, thanks for your input. After much thought I found the correct fasteners and T nuts, along with a slightly concave pic rail as it was linked to me by another member, all parts from Midway. So, those fasteners, the pic rail, and a couple of the Grove QD inserts are sitting in my basket, waiting for me to replenish my savings account, ha!

Sounds like nobody has a positive answer on if that WC stock is paintable or not. I may have to contact FX to find out for sure.

The Wildcat stock is paintable I have seen them done. If you look inside the stock you will see they paint on the soft touch. On mine the coating is very thin inside and it will flack off if you take your fingernail to it. I would sand it off. I showed you the pictures of mine with the cutouts for the hammer and test gauge. It's not all that thick and should sand off easy.

Bigragu the Altaros reg (170 BAR)has arrived with the Altaros Booster 2 weeks ago

In middle april i will travel to serbia my bully is there i need some days to test the gun with the reg on it

I will test the reg in different pressure settings different hs settings chrony and these thinks

I will pm you if i have the data

These Wildcat looks realy high grade
