Being a purely Digital NV unit you stand a far higher chance than the old vacuum tube technology NV (which was also very expensive).
It's still a very brave experiment though !
I would think various electronic connections will suffer 'failure' in the long run, but each 'individual' or major part of a Digital NV unit is pretty much shock proof (taken on their own). By which I mean the CMoS/CCD array (sensor), processing unit (like a PC cpu) and the viewing screen (small lcd/oled tv screen). Normally the first failure would be the Battery & it's connections but I think that it can be placed elsewhere (off rifle) for your unit (I know it can, but assume you have the external batt. pack).
The NV is sitting very high (too high for me!) and although the scope's own 'system' is approx weaver you could have a much lower adaptor (rifle dovetail to scope weaver) IF you wanted. However, you may feel the need for a droop compensating mount ...
See me for details on the lower type (I generally recommend a 2 piece adaptor that adds barely more than 4mm to the overall height).
ATN says the max caliber is a Winchester .308. There are known instances where it stood up to a 30-06, and at least ne where the guy bolted it atop a Browning .50! It sin't last!
WOW oldspook! You like to live dangerously I may try my X Sight on my Beeman R7, but that's as far as I'm going to tempt fate. It will spend most of its life atop my Condor where it will be safe. Good shooting and hope she hangs together for ya.
