Atn thermal

I use the ThOR LT 160 3-6x on my AEA HP SS plus 30 cal. I like how it uses regular 30mm rings instead of a proprietary or ACOG style mount.

It's pretty good for a low quality sensor and being under a grand. I mainly use it for ratting in the backyard.

I do wish I had gone with the ThOR 4 1.25-5x. Better sensor, color mode, phone connectivity, and being able to record are great features for the extra money.

Im in the market for a thermal too.

POU ill be ratting 10-20 yards and hog hunt up to 100-150 yards.

Is it worth the difference between 320 vs 640. Do u see the difference? Its almost double the costs.

also since what i plan to shoot is two very distinct distances, should i go 1-5x or get a higher magnification? I have seen quite a few people that bought a 1-5x say if they had to do it again they would go higher magnification.

i was looking at the thor 4 in 320 bc it closest to my budget range.

but then i have now started to look at agm and iray. Nvision and some agm are way out of my price range.

I recommend going with the saying, "buy nice or buy twice." With my 160 sensor, I was able to see a squirrel at 140 yards during the day, but I spotted it with my naked eye first. If it were night time, I probably would've missed it unless I caught the movement. I would definitely like to upgrade myself.

I would go with a higher magnification for your 100+ yard applications. One of my buddies picked up a refurbed ThOR 4 384 4-8x for $2200 and he's pretty happy with it. The battery life and ergonomics are great if you like using your own rings.

I've been curious about the Bering Optics Hogster 2.3-4.6x19 since it's about $1500 and has all the features I want minus recording. My only issues with that are the sensor is not as great as a refurb ATN 1.25-5X, the batteries (CR123s), and the picatinny mount (might not get the eye relief I want with my magazine in the way).

If your shooting at close range then a high magnification is going to be hard to use, but I would say 150 yards is a long shot with a lower magnification. 100 yards is doable with some practice. If you’re hunting at night, you can tend to get a lot closer to pigs then you can in the day most of the time.
I would love a 640 scope but I couldn’t justify the price difference. I tried the 160 ATN and ended up selling it and going with a 384 AGM Rattler. AGM does have a new 640 scope at under 4k. I wouldn’t personally buy another ATN Thermal because I have seen so many guys have problems with them, but the two I had were fine. Your mileage may vary. I like AGM and Bering for the price vs performance.

Bering and AGM have both introduced scopes that are 256 resolution now, as mentioned, in the $1250 to $1500 range. I bought the Rattler because of the great picture and built in recording for just at $2k. Wanted the Bering Hogster, but it’sa couple hundred dollars more and it didn’t have recoding built in.

how familar are you with AGM lineup?

I see everyone talks about the Rattler, but no one ever mentions their Python, Python Micro, Secutor.

I think the secutor is about to be discontinue only due to the fact that it's on sale at AGM website. Python might be their best line bc u can get a 640 with a 75mm front objective.

They also a new Adder scope too
