ATN 4k users: 3-14 or 5-20?

I started out with a Xsight II in 5x20 and quickly realized the 5X magnification was way overkill for close range and the field of view was too narrow. I sent it back and got the 3x14 and have been very happy with it out to 100yds for crows. With the standard IR I can see out to 185 yards easy (they say 200 with the stock torch) but others are correct the 14x get's grainy.

I am now in the market for the 3x14 4K model but I have a question..What is the closest it will range with teh ballistic calculator?? The older model wouldn't get closer than 25yrds with the ballistic calculator leaving you to hold under to hit close objects. The new lazer range finder option says it goes 5-1000yrds. Does that mean the new 4K has capability to get closer than 25 yards to match the lazer?? If I have 10-15yrd shots will I still need to hold under with the 4K?

My .22 Impact M3 Compact should be arriving today and I look forward to trying the new day/night ATN soon, yes I'm getting the lazer range finder. By the time you range your target and get into the menu to change your ballistic distance things tend to fly away. The lazer seems like a no brainer.

The ABL on the 4k will work down to 5y and report range down to 5y on the display. Any closer returns an error.

Granted, that's what the laser will read-- I have not yet verified the ballistic calculator will also work as close as 5y and adjust the reticle accordingly, but I believe it does. I'll have to check and verify tonight.

EDIT:

While I'd love to verify the ballistic calculator can solve down to 5Y when connected to the ABL I can't... because my 3 week old ABL is dead. Sometime between Saturday when I used it last and today it decided to die. It's not the battery, as I tried a fresh one and the battery that was in the ABL works fine in my Sig Kilo 2200BDX. Can't see the ABL bluetooth appearing on my phone with either battery, seems the ABL is dead. Off to a great start with ATN... ugh.

Guess now I have to deal with ATN's warranty department...
