Hi Guys, I want to get this scope within the next few days for my FX Impact X .25 700mm and was wondering which mounts I should get. FX no limits or Sporstmatch. I currently have the FX rings mounted with the AZTEC Emerald 3-18x50 and wanted to upgrade to a FFP etc.

I have been trying to decide between the

Athlon Optics Midas Tac Riflescope, 6-24x50, Direct Dial, Side Focus, 30mm, APLR4 FFP IR MOA Reticle

and the Athlon Optics Midas TAC 4-16×44 APRS2 FFP MIL Direct Dial, Side Focus

Anyway, I am slated to the MOA since that is what I have now. I normally use the rifle for less than 100yds, however, if I decide to target practice, I may shoot further. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated for my new setup.

Thanks

I have two of the 6-24x50 Midas TAC, one with APRS2 reticle, the other with the APRS3 reticle. Great glass, very good clicking turrets, and turrets are very accurate. If you're mainly shooting up to 100 yards, I'd go with the 4-16x44, since its smaller and lighter, and will go better with your Impact... If you're a holdover guy, and normally don't click, take a look at the new Midas HMR 2.5-15x version. I have one on my FT rifle and its a great little scope...

I looked at the athlon Midas tac and went with the helos 6-24. Main reason was the aprs3 wasn't going to be available here for ages. Main diff is the turret styles zero stop vs pop lock. I didn't see any diff in clarity etc, the Midas clicks are far more precise, ie they have a different feel and sound, my helos is a little mushy but it works. Price point is similar. Just depends on what you want, I would recommend both for their price. from memory the Midas may not have etched reference under the caps either... not a war stopper but I guess you can check that out.

Rings as discussed in mtnghost thread I went with Burris sportsmatch as it needed 40 odd mills of depression to get it back no near center on an fx impact. I think they are great once set up, you just need to make sure you match the right nylon shim to top /bottom as per the instructions to ensure you have correct offsets, I think this is where people may go wrong ,a very simple concept that is easy to accidently get wrong.

I have the TAC 4-16 and the TAC 6-24 with the APRS3, both in mil. I like the 6-24 over the 4-16 because the APRS3 reticle has the mil line designation numbers, "those that are in the reticle", on the """outside""" of the holdoff windage lines vs just off the right side of the vertical crosshair in the APRS2 reticle. But I hold over and off a lot and can't stand looking through a number, I hate it in fact!

The APRS2 reticle - Say 2 mils holdover was required and .5 -.7 mil left holdoff for wind also was required, well there's that stupid number "2" one has to superimpose on object for the hit, argg??!!

Once you've gone to mils it's hard to go back to moa. What's even harder is spotting for friends that still use moa when you use mils! It's so much easier calling shots for each other when both use the same system and especially when both are using FFP scopes.

I think I'm the guy Azrover was referring to. That was a friggen nightmare trying to figure out why my FX Impact was having POI shifts, though there was more than one source causing it so it wasn't easy nailing them down. The main problem was the No Limits mounts sliding down intermittently over time. Basically it was impossible to tighten the screws enough to hold tension. I ended up scoring the bearing/gripping surfaces and putting 220 grit sandpaper in between them to enable enough tension, no problems since. Tolerance stack or whatever, they could have been designed better IMO!

If you want the best Athlon reticle in mil, and don't need less than 25Y focus, the Ares BTR 4.5-27 is the one to get, It's all .2's round about. If the sale is still going on they aren't much north of $550.
