Athlon Optics. Finaly we have more scope options. Including close focus and FFP.

Just discovered Athlon Optics this weekend and spent Sat and Sun reading everything I could find on them. So far I'm very encouraged by what I hear. Brand new company founded by two guys rumoured to be former engineers of Bushnell. Just starting to get up to full production capacity as we speak with many new things coming soon. They have several FFP models which I am very excited about. They seem to be about excellent value as well and should give the big name brands a run for their money. They seem very interested in what customers want and are asking for feed back for their designs.

Anyway I took a chance and ordered one. The Athlon Argos BTR 8-34x56 ffp
It has their APMR-FFP-MIL illuminated holdover reticle that I have been looking for and it focuses down to 15 yards. I think this scope will be perfect for my RAW HM1000x .25 for long range (100 plus) use. I currently have the Falcon 5.5-25x50IR FFP but am hoping I will like the Athlon better. I wanted higher mag but the Falcon was all there was in a FFP with a close focus until now. I also have a Aeon 8-32x50 target dot that I am testing for this gun as well. Will likely sell the two I like least. Time will tell but I'm going to give it a try. Ordered it from Optics Planet for $389. with free shipping but is back ordered till early to mid April.

I should add they have a transferable no receipt no registration needed lifetime warranty. Gotta love that!

Yea Gunner isn't that a great reticle? Exactly what I have been looking for. Nutcracker if you look at their site they have several lines ranging in price from sub $200. to over $2,000. Their "Cronus" line is in the same class as Vortex Razor HD and SWFA's SSHD line and are made in Japan. Check out that Cronus 4.5-29x56 FFP I would Love to get one of those.

Here is a 13 page on going thread on Snipers Hide where I got a lot of my info.

I am going to order one,( argos 8-34) even though I ordered a 4-20 Sightron a couple days ago. I am a scope junkie, It is real hard to satisfy my eyes. One thing that drives me crazy is how hard it is to find out the parallax range on many of the scopes, @ least Athlon have made that easy. It is like some of the scope companies are ashamed that they only adjust down to 40 or 50 yards, so make hard to find out. Has anyone ever made a list of all scope makes & models that adjust down to 50 yards and less? My current favorite scope is a March 5-32, ( 10 yards parallax) but I cannot afford to put one of those on every airgun I own. Plus I like trying new things, keeps me young,LOL...

This looks to be like a really nice scope and its got an awesome reticle. I hope this thing turns out to be good I wonder how the tracking on the turrets are going to be on the Argos. I don't know if i would ever use the turrets but if they do track good on this scope I might have to seriously consider one of these. I wonder how they stack up to SWFA scopes quality wise. It's not every day you find a scope with everything you want on it. Guess we will have to sit back and wait for the reviews.

KYAirgunner so far all the reports I have seen say the tracking on all the Athlon scopes is excellent. Read through the Snipers Hide thread and you can get a good sense of how they are stacking up so far. Its overwhelmingly positive up to this point.

Kitplanenut I will likely use it mostly at mid range power also but like using a scope in its sweet spot and the extra power is there when I want to shoot small groups on paper. Also this is not the first batch which is good. The first run was not threaded for a sun shade but that has changed with the current ones.

I haven't looked through a FFP rifle scope, so for less than 400.00 , worth the experience IMO. As to higher powers, I used to think a 3-9 was as much as anyone would really need, but as my eyes get less clear I really find I like higher magnifications. On my lower power scopes I even use a Bull's-eye booster. If Athlon scopes are as good as what the Sniper forum conversation is indicating, I will be happy. Thanks 30cal, sharing that thread with us.
