Athlon Midas Tac vs. Element Helix FFP

Own both scopes and have switched to the Midas Tac for more elevation availability. They are both great optics and glass is clear on both.

I purchased the Helos 2nd gen first and after seeing how good it was I decided to try out the Midas. Midas and Helix both will get the job done and well. The Helix comes with covers while the Midas does not but that doesn't factor as performance just as extras to me.

Turret's are audible on both and both track awesome. The Midas was not as stiff as the Helix (parallax specifically). I installed the Midas on my Maverick and haven't taken it off since.

Hands down Midas Tac for me in 5-25x56. Awesome scope.

Depends on what your parameters are.

Helix comes in one focal range 6-24x50 in Mil/Moa

Athlon Midas Tac comes in three focal ranges and three recitals. My experience of the glass between the two brands is the Athlon has the edge overall for the full zoom range for the 5-25. The 6-24 will be a close call and reticle choice might be the deciding factor.

I've owned the Midas BTR which is the SFP version of the Midas Tac......also owned the Element Helix for a few weeks. Not much of a comparison in my opinion, the Athlon scopes are better in every way at that price point. They have better forgiveness in the eyebox, better parallax adjustment, and clearer glass. I returned the Element when the parallax wheel stopped focusing, and bought a second Athlon.

Midas Tac. Without a doubt. Athlon makes great scopes!

I know you asked about two specific scopes but I recently mounted an ARKEN SH4 6-24x50 on my son’s RAW and it’s a great scope for the money. I’m super impressed so far.

The question was kind of answered above and I’m not trying to step on anyone’s toes but it’s not so much a function of focusing as mentioned above. Tracking refers to when you dial elevation or windage with the turret, the crosshairs should move exactly straight up/down and side to side and when you return the turret to it’s original position, the crosshairs should also return to the exact same position where they started. Do a search of scope box test on You tube and you’ll see how it should work. Joe at Cyclops video has a few that will having you laughing out loud.

Element Helix FFP 6-24x50

•no IR

•only available with gridded reticle (for some too busy, for some absolutely essential)

•tool-less zero reset

Relevant for turret dialers:

•only 65mo elevation adjustment (TAC: 85moa)

•only 6mil (15moa) per turret revolution (TAC: 10mil (25moa))

vs.

Athlon Midas TAC FFP 6-24x50

•more expensive

•windage turret capped

Nice scopes. 😊

For me personally I wished they came out with a 4-24x50 with a wider FoV at the bottom end (and 10y parallax, of course)....

Thank you for your very thoughtful remarks. I have an Athlon Midas Tac and am very impressed with the clarity and reticle. I wish the windage knob wasn't covered and had a larger knob like the elevation. That's my only criticism. Based on Chapjl's comments, I was going to buy a BTR because I'm quite satisfied with an SFP scope. But then Stoti mentioned the Arken, which I've heard a lot of good about from Capt. Scope. I went on Arken's website and found that the SH-4 Gen II is in stock, so that's what I bought. I hope the weight isn't an issue because this is a really heavy scope, but other features seem to outweigh that. I'm anxious to try this.

Paul,

I'd love to hear your evaluation of your new scope.

Hope you won't have to wait too long, I hear some shipping/mailing companies appear to be using pedestrians to carry items from one city to the next.... 🙄

I compared the Midas Tac and the Arken today. I would have to give the Midas the slight edge on optical clarity and the reticle. The Arken has better turrets, wider FOV, but only focuses down to 27 yards. Considering that the Midas costs $150-200 more, I think both are worth the money. You can nit pick between the two, but they are both good scope.
