Athlon Midas BTR 2.5-15X50 - Love it!

Just put a Athlon Midas 2.5-15X50 on my .22 Wildcat and it is the ticket!. Just love this scope! I had a SWFA 12X42 on the gun, which I also really like, but I really wanted the option of an illuminated reticule. The slightly thicker crosshairs of the Midas reticule are also a big help for my 60 year old eyes:) This is the 3rd scope I have tried on my Wildcat, the first being the Argos BTR 6-24X50, which was too big and heavy for the Wildcat. Fortunately, I kept following the posts about Athlon scopes, and when the Midas 2.5-15X50 came out, I decided to get one, and I'm glad I did!

Here are photos of my Wildcat and the place I shoot. I have the sun at my back if I shoot in the AM, then I'm looking into the sun in the evening, making finding small targets really tough when they are at 50 yards, which is in the tree line.

The Midas turrets are very accurate and repeatable and easily support dial and shoot vs holdovers and returns accurately to zero. I agree the Midas turrets are not as tactile, audible, and positive as the SWFA are. Few scopes under $1500 have turrets that nice.

That Midas is a great fit on that Wildcat. My Midas is currently mounted on my KGun Mini Carbine. I use the SWFA SS 3-15x-42mm on each of my two wildcats.

I have the 2.5-15x50mm Midas. I very briefly considered the 4.5-27x50mm but quickly decided against it because the subtensions for the reticle are calibrated at 15x instead of at max. This makes a difference to me for a SFP scope since I would want to occasionally shoot at the higher mag levels using holdover vs dialing. The new Ares version 4.5-27x50 is essentially the same scope and features but in FFP. So the mil subtension are always true. That is my next long range scope.

As far as i know (and i'm pretty sure i'm right) the Midas 4.5-27x50 is calibrated at 15x as well, the major difference i can see is minimum parallax of 30yds vs 10yds, but not a big deal as i'm not gonna be doing bench shooting or hunting closer than that.
Does it come with some kind of flip-up lens cover?

Mentaliist - I don't have the two scopes to compare them. I can say the Midas is very clear.

Dirtbikerrick - I haven't gotten to shoot since I started this post but I still feel I finally got the right scope for the gun. Another scope I really like, and is very light, is my Vortex Diamondback 4-12X40. Super sharp. The reticule doesn't have any hold under marks but I've learned to live with that. Here is that scope on one of the best PCP's I've ever owned - A .22 Taipan Mutant shorty. The extra mod is a Donny FL Sumo. Another excelent product from Donny.
