Athlon Ares ETR UHD 3-18x50 MIL APRS6

Got it in finally from Cameraland last night and got right to work getting it setup once the kiddo was in bed. Man is it a beast! Never had a 34mm tube before but I do like it. Glass seems to be excellent! Turrets are very very good and think they feel nicer than the Midas Tac. Really like the lockable windage even more so than a capped windage like the Midas Tac line but just easier to use not having to take the cap off to adjust when necessary. Parallax adjustment seems to be very accurate and pops in and out very nicely. Will say it's a hair on the stiff side compared to my Midas Tac. The illumination while not really bright in daylight still is visible. Now my favorite is the reticle. I really like it alot. Just has everything that I like in a reticle and is usable for me at all powers. The lines are a hair thicker than the Midas Tac APRS2 reticle which I like and the .2 mil lines makes it easier to see also. Here's a shot through the scope at a starling at about 40yds away on 18x. Paired with my EVOL I think it's the ultimate duo for my pesting needs!

Dillon, congratulations! That is one CLEAR scope and the reticle is very clean. 34mm tubes are heavy but the light gathering is worth it. Just got an Accu-Tac PC4 the other day, really nice like the FC5 you had but smaller foot print. Have leg extensions coming also for field use. Enjoy that great scope on your incredible Evol! Oh...did that starling meet it’s doom!?

Such a COOL set up you have there Dairyboy!

Also that great scope is very appropriate to that excellent rifle. Glad you like it!

You are stylin with that heavy duty tripod, ballhead, and ARCA swiss rail !

Thanks Steve! And yes it was a necessary upgrade for the caliber of this gun. Honestly today is the first day I really got to try the tripod out on the farm and man I don't think I'll ever use a bipod again here. The sturdiness and stability is just as good as a bipod and can be used in any spot I want. Seriously one of the best things I've spent money on in this hobby was that tripod setup.

I agree you have an ultimate setup there! The new Athlons are awesome. I have one on an AR in 6.5 Grendel and it is outstanding for off-hand or bench shooting. The company listens and comes out with better products each generation. I literally drool over EVOS and Steyrs—-congratulations!

what grip is that??

Thanks! I agree they are great optics and Athlon is a great company with excellent customer service and listen to there customers as well. Besides one Discovery 10x44 HD optic I only own Athlon now. Just great optics. The grip is an Anarchy Outdoors Tuxedo grip. Best grip I've put my hands on.

Thanks Randall! Yeah it's a very clear scope very very happy with it. And yeah albeit a heavy scope it's worth the weight for what you get. Congrats on the Accu-tac! Heavy as well but absolutely rock solid bipods. The leg extensions sound interesting wasn't aware of that. And yeah that starling went down about 5 secs after that pic was taken lol. Along with a buddy who was in that same spot about a minute before.

Congrats on the big 34mm Dillon. Sounds like it has some nice features. I think the parallax on my Midas Tac is a little too loose for my liking but it's ok. I know my Sightrons are definitely snugger. Now the big question.... did you make the shot or did you take one for the team and just get the picture?

Jking

Thanks Jimmy! Yeah very nice features. Having used the scope for a good couple hours since getting it I'd have to say while the parallax is stiffer than the Midas Tac I think I like it better now really getting to use it. And yes that starling was no longer very shortly after the pic!

Thanks for the quick review.

Quick question is it just the picture and my imagination or is there a tint in the glass-?

I have two of the cheaper Bushnell Forge 3-18x50 versions of that Athlon Ares scope and they have similar looking tint in their glass as well. Not as pronounced as the yellowing with my 4.5-27x50 Forge though.

I have to agree the clicks (Forge version of the Ares) are a little nicer than my Midas TAC as well.

Dillon, Accu-Tac now makes leg extensions that are 10” long, all one does is to unscrew the feet and the extensions screw right on (you can install as many as you like)..I ordered 2 sets (4 extensions) for field use, should make the height approximately 27”, good for sitting or kneeling. Boy, the more I look at the sight picture thru your scope the WOW factor of clarity along with the clean reticle makes that one worthy scope to sit on top of your Evol! Thank you for taking the time and effort to take photos and post your thoughts! Enjoy that shooters dream combo! Stay safe and healthy! 🤗
