Athlon 4.5-30×56 ETR Reticle ?

I went down to AOA and looked thru some scopes. I looked thru a Midas Tac for my eyes the reticle is to fine or dim. I strain to see it. I looked at several scopes. I was asked if I wanted to see the Talon Athlon 4.5-30×56 ETR Reticle at first I said no because of its minimum parallax and me wanting to shot closer if needed. But I said hey I am here I may as well. I looked thru it and WOW I really liked it. I took it outside so I could look at definite distances. I picked a parked truck with small righting and stepped off 10 yards. I could use it to shoot at lower settings it would be very usable. I am not sure I could use a ten yard subtension. I wish I had payed more attention to that. I then stepped back 5 yards at a time. Each 5 yard you could turn the power up more to focus. That particular scope could be used at 30 power @ 20 yards. Another pleasant surprise. I had a Aztec with a tree reticle also a Leupold, to my eyes it made everything wash out and I would get eye strain but I liked it in the Athlon ETR,,, I didn't in the Midas Tac

All that lead in to ask my question. Has anyone compared the Athlon 3-18 to the 4.5-30 are they as clear as each other? Is the reticle bold or easy to focus on?

I have a 3-18x50 on order which should be shipping very soon. I'm assuming we looked through the same ETR as I looked through the one at AOA a week ago. Was the MOA version. I have a 4-16x44 Midas Tac that I'm quite fond of (but I got young eyes) but was very very impressed by the ETR. I can give a rough comparison there once I get the 3-18 ETR.

I can vouch for the quality of glass with my Ares ETR 4.5-30x56 APRS1 in Mil. Reticle seems easy for me to see through the whole range YMMV. Superb optics for the money. Just received the Crimson Trace 5-Series today and haven't even opened the box yet!!!...To busy making chicken and vegetable soup for the snowy day 😆

Can't wait to hear about Dairyboy's experience with the new 3-18 ETR.

It really goes to show that unless you've gone through or owned several models of scopes, you never know unless you've looked through them yourself.  Everyone else can tell you different but everyone's eyes are different and reticles are a personal preference. I wish I had a fun store nearby with a wide selection of optics to compare.

☝️ You are correct. We are lucky to have Mile High Shooting near by.
