AT LAST!!! An American resident stock replacement/customising source???

PM from a fellow forum member....he's willing to cut an unfinished stock for me, if I provide the wood blanks. If it works, he might begin producing them.

At last!!! We may be able to cooperate and get an American resident stock duplicator/ modifier that we can go to for better quality stocks for some of our precision equipment.

I'm going to do it. I'll send him my Taipan Veteran stock to duplicate, and ask him to shave off unnecessary, wood to reduce weight and improve looks. I can sand, stain, and finish the shaped blank when I receive it. However….here's my problem: I don't have access to wood blanks of any quality other than lumberyard 2 X 6 lumber. Can anyone help out here? Have you got a couple pieces of hardwood laying around that you can spare?

If I can secure some decent blanks…I will post pics, processes, and full results in a lengthy post! I've got the wood working materials to final-finish a shaped stock, but we need a couple of wood blanks. Can anyone help? If we work together, this can be helpful to all of us!!!

PM me if you are willing to help...might be able to get one done for you...

I’ve got a really great friend who has a recycled wood business. He’s dealing with a guy who has over 2000 walnut gun stock blanks he’sctryingvto Get rid of. They range from just average to exhibition grade. My buddy’s deal with the guy is that my buddy gets one pallet of blanks for every two he sells. So right now I’m waiting on him to sell a couple of pallets so I can have a few of the blanks. It’s taking longer than I had expected but I’m willing to wait. Some of the grain and patterning in these stocks is absolutely beautiful. I’ll create a post when my buddy get’s his pallet of blanks, I’m sure he’ll be willing to let quite a few go for a fair price.

Hepotter, I believe Stoti is in Northern California.... but don't hold that against him ;)

I don't give a rat's ass if he's LBGTQ, Democrat, Sex Offender, Serial Killer, or even...even...an attorney!!! That's right...I'll go to ANY lengths to get a better stock for my Taipan Veteran...!!!!

That's right! It's time I came out of the closet...I am "Kindy 'Ol Uncle Hoot" from the Talon forum....brace yourselves...some people say I'm "out-spoken".

“Outspoken”? The last time I was referred that way was because the speaker was too kind to use profanity. Thanks for reminding me I haven’t been on the Talon forum in far too long.

This may be an unwelcome suggestion, however you can readily laminate boards together to form sufficient blanks. modern glue such as Titebond, with sufficient clamping force, will have stronger glue joints and result in a stronger stock overall. laminating things like Walnut and maple would allow a stylistic feature rather than trying to hide the fact that you couldn't find a big enough blank.

Food for thought.

That is some funny ship

Yeah, I'm in Nor Cal. My buddy's business contact that has all the blanks is in Nebraska or something. That's why there has been this delay getting the blanks sold and out here. Hopefully soon! Hepotter, I'll let you know when we get some. I have a couple other guys waiting too. I wish I could hurry things up, but I'm just his buddy, not involved of the sale of the blanks. By the way, I've contacted Cali'co in the past and didn't have much luck. That was a while back, things may be different now. Have a great weekend. Stoti
