FT Match Report Arlington Sportsman’s Club 04/23/2022

We had 14 competitors come to challenge the ASC Field Target course yesterday! The weather was perfect, and there weren’t any bugs or chiggers, so if you weren’t present then you missed out on a great day of shooting again this month! It is going to be hot soon and you’re missing out so get off the couch and come and shoot with us. Shooters came from as far as Tulsa Oklahoma and Houston Texas to shoot this match. I decided after our long string of 30 Troyer difficulty matches to turn down the difficulty a little this month, and let the shooters knock down more targets. That was a fortuitous decision because the wind was really whipping at 20-25mph all day and the final Troyer was higher due to the wind. We had one “new” shooter, Jim Martin, join us for his first FT match, but Jim is not a new shooter. He is a seasoned, all-round shooter in other disciplines. Today, we set out a 62-shot match using 10 of our lanes, with two offhand lanes. Scott Cotton painted the targets and checked them for proper operation, and Eric Pianori helped me setup the course on Friday afternoon. Thanks for all the help, Eric and Scott, and to everyone who helps me setup, run, and takedown the course each month.

The average Troyer this month was 25.0, SD 7.25, Avg Dist 29.4 yds, and Avg KZ 1.22”.

We started at 9:00am after a brief safety meeting. Everyone spread out on the course “shotgun” style and started shooting. We had only one cold line for a string that got caught on the target when resetting it. I pride myself on having very few cold lines due to equipment failures, and work diligently each month to check the targets after they are set out on the course. We finished shooting about three hours later, and there were many smiles and celebratory remarks from the competitors about their success knocking down targets. Hunter PCP was once again the most numerous and contested class for the day with 10 shooters. 1st place was Rick Cuccio from Tulsa with an outstanding 57/62 shooting his reliable and accurate Benjamin Marauder, with a small lead over 2nd place Jim Clarke who shot 54/62 with his Daystate Redwolf. There was a 3-way tie for 3rdplace that was settled by best performance on the two offhand lanes. Faisal Khan was declared 3rd based on the offhand score with 53/62 using his FX Dreamline, while Ron Robinson shooting his venerable RAW TM1000 and Dave Cole shooting a unique BSA R10 finished 4th and 5th respectively.

In Hunter Piston, Scott Cotton told me that he shot one of his best scores in recent memory with an 43/62, scaring off all the other piston competitors.

In WFTF PCP, I finished first with 56/62 using my RAW TM1000 and new WFTF PCP shooter Eric Pianori finished 2nd with a 52/62 shooting his very customized (by himself) Tau. You can see some pics of Eric and his rifle below.

We will have our next match on the 4th Saturday (May 28) starting at 9:00am to beat the heat.

See you at the next match,
