Artemis PP 700 PCP Pistol input appreciated...

I bought a PP700S-A in Sept. When I got it, it was shooting the 15 gr JSB at 600 fps as advertised. I did not want a scope. I prefer iron sights for quick target acquisition. However, when I got the gun, it shot significantly low when using the factory iron sights and height is not adjustable, only windage. I bought an adjustable rear sight from CZ. Of course it didn't fit, so I milled the 60 degree dovetail larger to accommodate the new rear sight, but because the CZ sight is taller, the front sight was way to short. So, I made a new one. The CZ sight extends beyond the end of the frame and it then impedes the swinging of the breech block in order to load pellets, so I had to radius the left top corner for rotational clearance. Another issue with the PP700 is the difficulty in loading a pellet due to minimum clearance between the breech end of the barrel and the opened breech block. It is obviously doable, but it is awkward. Using a pellet pen really works much better, but the breech block should be scalloped a bit of the left side for pellet pen clearance.

So, after all this work, I finally got to shooting this pistol and adjusting the sights. After about 50 pellets the regulator gave up. I have returned the pistol to the distributor for repair last week. How well this all works out, we will see. I will keep you posted. I really do like this pistol. I wanted a PCP pistol with the look and feel of a Thomson contender. The PP700 does exactly that. The weight and balance is superb. I have been able to hold 1.5" groups at 25 yards so far. I hope to do better when I get it back. The barrel is not choked. The pressure gauge that came with the gun reads way low though and I have asked for it to be also replaced under guarantee. I see no reason to replace the barrel. Although I have not had time to evaluate the correct pellet to use, but I suspect a 5.52mm diameter would be better. I will measure the barrel exactly with pin gauges upon its return. The trigger is more than acceptable to me, It does have a bit of creep, but it is easy to both improve or get used to. For me, I'm going to leave it alone for now. On the question of the number of shots per filling. I was seeing more than 30 before the regulator gave up. It is easy to adjust the hammer spring if you want. I don't know about tunability of the regulator either. It is very loud though and would benefit from a silencer. The factory makes one and there is a cavity in the shipping box foam for one about 100mm long. The barrel nut at the muzzle is already threaded with an 8,mm thread for one. So, depending on where you buy this pistol, it may or may not be available.

Have a couple in .177. Best bang for the buck out there in my opinion. Sorry to hear you have had trouble with yours Steve. Mine so far have been trouble free. Another thing is I took one all apart cleaning and adjusting. Really easy to disassemble and put back together. Also easy to tune. Built wood grips and a little screw on stock for them and now use one for my shop gun. Need to come up with a little 4x scope for it. The shot count has a wide spread depending on how it's set. With the .177 800fps range is easily achieved. This one is set around 500fps so it won't shoot through my shop tin roof. That gives it a shot count in the plus 50's. As far as accuracy at 10m sandbagged it will shoot through the same hole every time. It's amazing. Built an adapter from 8mm fine to 1/2 to fit a standard moderator. Built one that is just a can about 5 inches long. Maybe took 1/3 of the bark out of it. Had a Walurich moderator with baffles that came from Penchetta for about 100 bucks. It works reasonably well, but i was expecting quieter. Wish one of the suppliers here would start stocking them. I'd like to buy one in 22. Sylvan
