Artemis P15: Sight-In And 10M Accuracy Test [Video]

Sam, thanks for sharing your setup. I love what you have done there.

You know, the other day I have to call a beekeeper because I found a honey bee hive on a hole in the tree I have on my backyard, if you saw my “welcome to the channel” video you will see the tree when I’m showing my “mini range” well the guy came and after he picked up the bees he told me to use the construction foam that comes in a spray to seal the hole in the tree.

After I did just that I was thinking that this material might do a nice backstop if I fill a box with it and let it dry. It’s light enought and I think If I do a square thick enough it will stop the pellets, I can also put a towel in the center. Who knew those bees will give me that idea? I might try that this weekend and if it works I’ll do a video.

Thanks again for sharing!

Erlis, you betcha bro! And I'm glad that you're liking it so far!

Hey, sorry for the super-late-reply.. I don't know how I neglected this thread for so long. It's too easy to lose our posts on here..
Anyways.. Bees?! Ah no kidding?! I know the exact spot that you mentioned, and it's good to hear that you got it taken care of!
It's cool to hear that the bee-guy mentioned 'spray foam' or 'expanding foam' or best yet 'triple expanding foam', the stuff is great!
I'm not sure if you tried using it for backstop material yet, but, I do know that it'll harden to a relatively dense/hard foam when cured..

Get this.. I have some friends that have actually used that stuff to do custom bodywork on cars, etc..
Instead of using wood or wire to make framework / molds, they'd use cardboard to box in the work areas, then fill it with that foam..
It'd expand, ooze out of a relief hole, then cure.. The cardboard would then be removed, and the foam could be cut/sanded to shape..
Then fiberglass work could be done over that, and finished.. Pretty neat..
They'd also use it to fill rust holes in rocker-panels, cab corners, etc.. haha

I like the way you think, and it'd be really interesting to know if your idea would work! You'll have to update me/us on that one.

While I'm here, I might as well drop a little update..
I finally stopped being lazy, and did an oil change on my compressor, then topped off my airtank, then for the first time ever....
I filled the P15 to it's max 250 bar of pressure! I know - I know - It's amazing!! 😃

Previously I was only filling it to between 150 and 200 bar, so we were never really 100% of it's consistency / potential..

Well, this morning before work, I sat down with it, and sent some lead down range.. [Across the house, but it still counts]

^^^ I'm trying out these new targets, and so far, I really like em'! That's what I ended up with after my lightning round..
I didn't have much time for any real precision, but for another quickie . . . Not too bad.. [Still using Crosman Premier 14.3gr HPs]

^^^ From 250 bar to where I stopped shooting, this is where the pressure is at.. Again, Not bad..

Man, this thing is too much fun!!

😃👍

Yesterday morning, I picked up where I had left off..
I hung a new target, and started plinking dots.
Starting at the upper/left, going down, then to the next row to the right, down, etc..
When I got to the 13th dot [5 down 2nd row] I noticed the pellet hit high.
So apparently the 12th dot was where the tank pressure and the reg didn't mesh well?
I kept hitting either centers or high after that, then ran out of time, so,
I fired off the rest of the mag, and called it quits..

^^^ The PSI at the end of that session:

And then I remembered.. There's another variable..

I didn't use the same two-good-magazines.

I accidentally grabbed the other two 'sketchy ones'..

So, I guess I'll just have to hide those two turds better so I'll stop finding them.

Time to refill to the max again, and start over. haha

Hey there Al, it's always nice to catch up!

Yessir, I just can't get enough time behind the trigger of that little thing.. These P15 are just so much fun to shoot.
Oddly, with that said, I still actually like the 'fit' of the Kral Puncher Breaker a bit better, but, that's another story..

Hahaha Chipmunk lead-poisoning.. That's great! 🤣

You nailed it when you said how nice they are for taking along on hikes. Man, I can't wait to be able to do that..
Being in this new area, and having to search and explore new locations to shoot at, something compact is key.
Also, with the titanium air tank and ability to store such high pressure, they'll let us shoot even more/longer. I love that.

I'm currently in a bind.. Sort of a cross-roads..

I have to replace a high end camera lens, and, I'd like to get another PCP rifle..
I can do both 'eventually', but right now, it's one or the other, and either way, I'm looking at close to $2k
For me, that's a lot of saving - and/or having to sell other things..

Here's the funny part.. Even knowing this, and as anxious as I am to be able to get something in hand asap,
I was Seriously Tempted the other night to just say screw it, and order another one of these P15s in .25 caliber. lol
The guys at Krale in The Netherlands must really get a kick out of my random impulse control issues..
I did good though.. "Adulting" kicked in, and I closed out of their website, and walked away from the computer.

I'm glad you're enjoying the P15 posts as much as I enjoy seeing other peoples' posts about them..
I promise to keep em' coming, I just need to start thinking up some different / fun things to do for them now..

I hope all's well, and talk to you soon.

🙂👍

A it late but I’ve been really busy. Update on my Skyhawk....

Replaced the barrel and installed the Hima reg. She’s shooting like a dream. Ended up selling it to another member. I was missing it big time so I bought another one. The new one has a great barrel and a great reg. Installed the HUMA just to be on the safe side but it was hole in hole at 20 yards out of the box.

So my original problem was the barrel. Don’t know what was wrong with it but the barrel change fixed it.

racolon,

Hey! Thanks for popping back in with an update! Glad to hear that you figured out what the issue was, and got it addressed..
That's awesome that you got it shooting so well too! Good deal! It's really cool to hear that you passed it onto another member here too.

Haha I hear ya about missing it.. If / when I sell mine, it'd be the same.. I'd miss it, and end up getting another one.

It's great to hear that you scored a new one and that it's shooting like a dream! Excellent news!
Nice thinking to go with the Huma reg too as that will most definitely improve the performance since they're so much nicer than the OEM regs.

🙂👍

kzz1kaw,

Right on man! Thanks for the heads up!
That's nice to know - Especially since this is one of those guns that I'd definitely opt for another one in .25 cal also!
Hopefully the bad barrels are something that the factory has or will figured out and found a way to improve.
It'd be a pain for people to keep having to roll the dice on getting a straight shooter or having to replace

🤞🤞

I recently received my Skyhawk 22 back from JSAR Where I had the barrel replaced with a LW poly choked 20 inch barrel, Huma regulator and a tune for around 950 FPS with Crosman Hp’s.

The oem barrel had a tight spot directly in front of the Lead so the pellet evidently rattled down the barrel, or so the groups seem to indicate. I lapped the tightspot but although the accuracy did improve it was not enough for me to keep it. I

I went with the Huma after reading about the regular, creep issue on so many regulated rifles.

At first I wanted it tuned for my NOE cast 20 grain pellets, that my MM TJ barrel prod loves, but the LW barrel did not seem to like them, so I had Matt give it the same tune that JSAR did when they rebarreled Swish’s p-15.

My shroud has both ends of the shroud threads crooked, to the same angle so at least SPA was consistent with their poor quality control, but the result was I could not get the Donnyfl adapter and Koi to do nothing but clip badly. As a result with Donnyfl’s excellent service, I installed the Koi directly to the barrel. Note: the LW Barrels do not have the width to thread to 1/2x20 so the barrel is threaded to the oem 1.5 metric.

The first, and only, store bought pellet I have tried are the Crosman Premier Hp, if this was the only pellet available I would have no issues, they print one hole groups at 10 yards and are so cheap. A rough shot count seems to be around 45 to 50 shots before it drops off the regulator.

When I purchased the Skyhawk, I knew from reading about the p-15 issues that I would need to spend some money on it, but that is what many of us airgunners do. JSAR made my rifle into what I wanted and I an happy with the outcome.

Roachcreek,

Wow, thanks for dropping in with your P15/SkyHawk experience and update
It's a buzzkill that you kept running into issues with the quality control problems with yours, and there's no excuse for things like that..
I guess the QC-people must either be slacking on a Monday or Friday, or maybe they're on crack.. haha

Glad to hear that you got things all figured out, and man.. Great choices of upgrades! I hear fantastic things about both..
If/when it comes time for me to upgrade/replace, I'll be going the same route, and, using the same shop..
I've heard nothing but excellent feedback for Matt / JSAR.

It's interesting that the LW bbl didn't take too kindly to the heavier pellets..
Comparing apples to oranges - With my OEM bbl, I usually only shoot the Premier 14s, but, it even likes the 21 grain H&Ns..
I just received a tin of JSB 15.89s, and am really looking forward to giving those a whirl now too..
I haven't ever shot those before, so, it'll be cool to compare them to the Premiers and see how all of my rifles like them..

Back to your SkyHawk - You mentioned the shroud being either threaded or cut 'crooked'.. That's interesting..
I ran into a similar issue with another one of my rifles, and now you've made me curious if that's the case with that one too?
Glad to hear that you got that sorted out though! And thanks for listing the thread size and pitch for everyone!

Shroud - If it was a threading issue, I wonder if adding a thin spacer or multiple spacers could 'correct' that?
Sort of like adding spacers to tank fittings to get the gauge tight and angled in the right position?

If it was a cut issue, I suppose a precision square might show that, and then some fine sanding might correct?

Either way - You've peaked my curiosity..

In the end, you have a bad-ass little pup, and that's what it's all about!

🙂👍

Matt at JSAR told me the degree of threading misalignment was the same on both ends. The receiver end being crooked is livable as the flash hider lines it up, but the muzzle end simply points the adapter and LDC in a direction other than where the barrel points.

Matt tested it for clipping while talking to me on the phone, and did it in a way that I never thought of trying, he did it with a chronograph. If the projectile strikes a sirface before leaving the muzzle, it slows it down.

Having a 20 inch barrel is a mixed blessing in that it is now 34 inches with the Koi, however it uses less air now to achieve the same velocity as the oem barrel, just does it with less air which translates into more quieter shots.

Roachcreek

RoachCreek,

Ahh right on man, that's interesting, and I'm with you 100%
Wow, Matt's method is about a simple and effective as it gets! What a great idea! Most people just use a piece of tape [and compare the exit hole to center]
I think in the case of the rifle that I mentioned, it must just be a threading issue at the front.. I think I 'corrected' the clipping using an o-ring or washer,
but obviously, that shouldn't have had to be done..

The 20 inch bbl: I hear ya man, and no doubt. But a few extra inches is no biggie vs. having more efficiency - more shots and a quieter report!
That's awesome! I've chatted with a few other people who've gone the custom bbl route, and they absolutely love and recommend that setup as well.
Laser accuracy - even at long distances - and still at a relatively low price point.. Win Win.

🙂👍

Roachcreek,

What the hell man?! I'm so sorry that you [guys] keep running across all of these issues with your rifle!
I'm usually a really low-key / mellow dude, but I honestly don't know if I could take that much without having an atomic meltdown..

It's good to hear that at least with the bolt and the o-ring, they were relatively quick and painless fixes!

Is your gun still/back with Matt? Or is it all good to go now and in your hands?

I really hope that you'll get to enjoy it like crazy once it's 100$% in action!

🙂👍

Sam

I have been shooting one hole groups with it all week at 10 yards with Chp’s. The o ring was a quick job, you know how it is with pcp’s you get to know divers grease and oring pretty well.

I watched a video about disassembling the fill port assembly and had no problems with the replacement.

I am happy with it. Just wish I could cast for it like I do my other air rifles.

My longest shot with cast bullets in a airgun was while making my 615 yard airgun/12 oz cola can utube video with a Haley 257 Scandalous 6 years ago. So being able to feed it my handmade ammo was a big deal, but at least it loves cheap Crosman Hp’s. My MM TJ barreled Prod loves the NOE cast Hunters.

Roachcreek

Outstanding! Aw man, I'm so glad to hear that you've been shooting, and, shooting so well! Awesome!
Right on! haha Yeah, we definitely become gurus when it comes to lubes and o-rings . . . Real Fast.
Glad to hear you found a dismantling video for the probe port too.. That's great! I love tech vids like that!

Casting - That'd be killer! And kudos to you for making your own rounds!
I spent the majority of my life as a metal worker - either forming, fabbing, or welding, so I really enjoy things like that..
And my uncle works for a place called Redding Reloading Equipment in Cortland where I grew up..
The make some amazing reloading related components there for sure, so he's probably big into custom ammo also.

Anyways... Six-Hundred-And-Fifteen Yards?!?! WOWWW!!! That's outa' hand! Respect!!
I love long distance shooting, but after hearing that, I'll have to re-think my definition of 'long'. hahaha
I'll have to try to find your video now.. That's too cool!

Back to the Skyhawk - Haha You said it! At least it enjoys cheap pellets! I couldn't agree more!
We can get tons of them for very little cost, have no extra time invested, so we can spent it having fun shooting instead!

🙂👍👍

Well dudes and dudettes, I have a fun little update..
It's more of an 'in progress' post - with more to follow:

Darko / ddark and I put together an order for a few of his high-capacity magazines and a single shot loader..
As of this morning, all 3 were at my door. The design and build quality of them look absolutely amazing!

As for the P15 BlackHawk.. Yup, I said BlackHawk.. That's what I've dubbed mine after this:
I broke down, and shot the stock with black some Plasti Dip spray - to give it a better feel/grip and synthetic look.

I can't wait to get it all reassembled, mags filled, and tested out!

Til' then, here's some pics.
[I also have to recuperate from the massive head buzz from painting inside] 🤣
