Arkansas Approves Big Bore Airgun Hunting

"AGFAN"I'd rather have regulations responsibly refined while humanely taking big game and promoting the sport. I can't respect refining or eliminating irresponsible regulations after deer are maimed with sub 100 FPE .35 caliber airguns.
Just my point of view.
I understand this point of view completely, but I would counter with shot placement is critical for humane kill no matter what you are hunting with, how many deer have been maimed with legal hunting powder burners by poorly placed shots? Requiring massive amounts of energy will NOT compensate for shooters taking poor shots. But at least this is a step in the right direction.

Maryland Black Powder Regulations:
  • Muzzleloading rifles or shotguns used for deer hunting must be at least .40 caliber in size and must use 60 grains of black powder or more (a black powder equivalent is acceptable) and propel one all-lead, lead alloy or copper soft-nosed or expanding bullet or ball at a single discharge.
Yes shot placement is key. I agree that a Bulldog, Light Hunter, Dragon Claw and some others will take down deer and should be allowed but I respect Maryland's decision to err on the side of caution and refine the regulation over time based on real world outcomes. I'm also grateful to all the States that allow large and small game airgun hunting.
