Are you trying to buy a new .20 Caliber air gun?

There seems to be a lot of interest in .20 caliber Springers lately at least I spend a lot of time answering questions concerning it, I have four .20's myself. How many of you have inquired, preordered, or found a NEW .20 Caliber gun lately...in spring or PCP? I'm a fanboy of the .20 and just like to keep up interest in the caliber as it's future dosn't look promising. Thanks!

I have 8 myself, always looking and like you, try to answer questions about them when they come up. Also know at least one or 2 people that have ordered guns in .20 and still waiting for them. Random lame guess at least in the case of anything Weihrauch is they focus more on .177 and .22 since more shooters buy those calibers than they do .20, so it's what they focus the most on. I haven't really looked at the PCP side.

I've also half wondered if the newfound interest is because shooters figured with .20 being such a niche caliber, there'd be lots of ammo out there when they couldn't find the pellets they really wanted in other calibers. There hasn't been lately considering the number of shooters out there with anything Sheridan, rifles and pistols, shooters who already own guns in the caliber whether it's springers or PCP and now the new converts, so you have retailers flooded with .20 orders. Another random lame thought pellet makers focus on the bigger selling calibers like the gun makers do, so the few in .20 also sent to the back burner like rifles did.

Makers of either aren't likely to tell you so I figure my random lame guesses are as good as any...lol.

I have a R7 in .20 . I would love to have a HW50 ,any suggestions?

Airguns of Arizona does list them. When they may get some back is anyone's guess since the original batch was a special run done because a bunch of shooters got together, got enough orders to make AOA happy and AOA did ordered them.

Krale doesn't normally carry .20 but they can special order, but then you end up like jccams and waiting for it to finally be made and shipped. My own list includes both a Beeman R9 and R7, a Custom built by Diana D34K premium and my '73 Silver Streak. The other 4 are no longer made Turkish built Webley Valuemax .20 cal springers that most, when they were still around, wouldn't give a 2nd look at. They should have since Hatsan actually did something right making the barrels and mine are all silly accurate, not pellet picky and will shoot everything still made in .20.

Let's see.....

I have a bluestreak, HB20 to go with it, built one from a 2240 and a hipac, one of the 15 Beeman Wolfpups that were imported back in the day, and I ordered my Leshiy 2 in .20. I think it's an underrated caliber that performs extremely well, especially with the barrels being made today. It's unfortunate that pellet manufacturers haven't given more attention to them, especially the ones here in the US. Crosman did at one time, but gave them up.

I have been toying with the idea of getting a springer, but not too seriously. I'd have to thin out the herd to justify it, and I happen to like what I have now.

Got a HW97 in 20 last summer. Called AOA to see when they were going to get more in since their website showed out of stock. When I talked to them, they still had one so I jumped on it. Put in vortex spring with the help of dlzblz, and made it a great shooter. Became my Squirrel gun this past fall. Loving it, and wondering about trying it out in field target this summer.

I have one of the few factory made 0.20 Daystate Airwolf MVT's. Stellar gun and exceptionally accurate with both the 13gr jsb and the 16gr heavies.

Hard to find 0.20 in anything but a few brands here in SA as well, but we do get a fair amount of 0.20 weihrauch stuff available in stock.

Have to agree those heavies are an unbelievable pellet. I think maybe part of the advantage of 0.20 is the fact it isn't so popular and that the jsb dies might not wear to the point that the other calibers do. I certainly haven't noticed 'bad batches' like in 0.177 and 0.22.

So I have one .20 rifle which is a RAW HM 1000 and is well known as the Blue Beast! I also have a Thomas in .177 and 2 other RAWs in .177 that I use for FT. I shoot open class FT and my average score the last 2 seasons is a 56. It doesn't matter which rifle I use the .20 or .177 so I can't really say I see a advantage in accuracy between the 2 calibers for FT. I will say that I have shot my personal best 58 with the .20 Blue Beast.

I ocassionally also shoot 25yd indoor BR and the .20 Blue Beast has shot some great cards over the years with my personal best 22X count and 250 score. It routinely shoots 250 cards with high X counts in the teens.

One thing I really like about the .20 is the bigger pellets are a little easier to load in the rifle and I have never had a hard time finding pellets for it.

I have the HW50s in .20 caliber. They offered them on special order at the time, then they started listing the caliber along with the .177 & .22. The rifle quickly became a favorite for me. Someone posted a comment about AOA re-boring the .177 barrel to .20. I don't know how that info came out but the barrel on mine is stamped with "USA" on it. They also made a comment that those altered barrels are slightly tighter at the breech.

I also picked up a HW45 in .20 cal. Needless to say I've become a fan.

No. But it's great that the caliber has its ardent supporters and users. To those of you who use in the field target game. Does the .20 have a significant advantage over the .177?

In my extensive testing ... YES

Never was able to ink out a win at a major match prior to trying out then owning a .20 cal daystate MK3. Won my first state championship with it, then converted my RAW TM-1000 to .20 cal.

In the last 7 years or so I've competed in FT using a .20 cal, racked up no less than 9 State championships, 2 National championships while also setting high match score & 2 Gran Prix championships.

Yea the .20 is a tad loopier in trajectory to say a .177 ( >20fpe class ) with 10.3 at 900fps ... .20 at 800 fps, but the wind drift and higher BC of @ .040-.044 has been well worth while for me.

you have to ask yourself better at what?

I would say as a hunting type caliber the 20 has fantastic advantages over the 17, and some advantages over the 22. It’s kind of the best of both worlds. Flat trajectory, but much more frontal area when you hit, compared to 177. It’s a great caliber.

however, if I’m hunting up into the trees at a high trajectory, I prefer a lightweight 177. It’s not going to go very far if I miss.

As far as Scott’s comments above for field target. I think he’s proven that it will perform at least as well for him, which is a huge statement. That said, in his case, I would give credit to the shooter. He just took a different path to where he needed to go. This is not to invalidate his point about the 20 at all.
