Are there even budget-friendly accurate airguns that don't leak?

I've wasted $200+ in pellets trying to get a decent .25 airgun now, and I'm on my fourth lemon....

So, my first PCP was a Hatsan flash .25 , and I bought it for $259 off amazon a couple of years back. It was a pretty nice gun, never leaked even one bar of pressure when I stored it for 8 months. It was pretty darn accurate too, I didn't really shoot any groups with it, but I did take dozens and dozens of squirrels and a couple coons. Also did I mention I got a squirrel at over 100 yards? (to be fair, I was simply plinking at 100 yards, and I was sighted in exactly for that range, so when a squirrel climbed down the tree exactly where I was plinking at, I couldn't resist). It lasted around a year and a half before the accuracy randomly become unusable. To be fair, I won't count this gun as a lemon, because it didn't have any issues out of the box. I tried everything to fix it, and in the process, I wasted 1400 more pellets. Eventually I gave up, and sold it.

Using the money I got selling my Flash, I bought a new PCP. The gun I ended up getting was a Kral Puncher breaker silent. It was my favorite gun out of all of them. I consistenly got 0.3" groups at 40 yards with it, no problem at all. Sadly, only a couple weeks after I got it, it out leaked overnight.

So, I sent it back and got a replacement, which was just as good, but it ALSO leaked after a couple weeks, so I sent it back, got a full refund. I regret this decision to this day. I wish I would have just got it fixed, instead of getting a refund.

After a month or so, I still hadn't recieved my refund, but I went ahead and bought a benjamin marauder .25. It ended up coming 10 days late because pyramid's warehouse was 10 days behind. I ended up calling them, and finally, I got an explanation. A week or so later, the marauder arrived. It was such a nice gun, except for the fact that it couldn't hit the broadside of a barn at 37 yards. Oh yeah, did I mention it was also a slow leaker? As with my flash, I had tried everything to fix the accuracy, and I shot 700+ pellets trying to figure out the cause of the inaccuracy. Eventually, I had exhausted every variable there is, and I gave up.

At this point I was frustrated. I mean getting lemon is bad, but getting three lemons? That's a lot worse...

I sent it back, and I really did my research this time. at this point, I still hadn't gotten the refund from my Kral. I finally settled on the ATI Nova Liberty in .22. I had watched all the videos on the gun shooting sub MOA at 100, and I was so impressed that I had to buy it. The minute I saw the Kral's refund money come through I went and immediatly tried to buy the Nova Liberty off Airguns of Arizona. But when I tried to buy it, the transaction did not go through. I called AOA, and I spoke to a helpful representative who told me AOA had stopped selling it, because of all the issues customers were having with them. I guess I could say that I dodged a bullet there.

At this point I was beyong frustrated, and I decided to go with what I knew... so I bought a Hatsan Flash. well actually, I bought the Hatsan Flashpup from Pyramid Air, but from what I heard, they are essentially the same thing as the Flash except for a few details.

When the Flashpup arrived, I went up to my buddy's house to shoot it. I was disappointed to find that grouped below expectations at 70 yards. The best pellet, which was the JSB 25.39 pellets (as with all my .25 airguns), still couldn't consitently group under 2 inches, and occasionally went over 3 inches. I blamed it on the shooting rest I made and went home. After a couple of weeks of trying to fix it and testing in my backyard (and over 700 pellets), I finally determined it was a lost cause. With the flashpup, I was getting 1-2 inch groups at 37 yards. This doesn't even come close to the accuracy of my Kral, which was 0.3 inches at 40 yards.

I can't even begin to express my frustration with this situation! In total over 4 guns, I have shot almost $200 worth of pellets just trying to get a decent .25 airgun.

I don't know what to do!

Do I send it back? Will Pyramid even give me a refund for an inaccurate gun? Do pyramid air airguns always have issues like this? Should I buy

Thanks to the marauder and the flashpup, my standard of what is 'accurate' is lower than it was when I had my Kral, and I'm hoping for 3/4" at 50 yards. I'd love a sub 1 1/2" gun at 100 yards, but my experience with the FOUR lemons as taught me never to expect anything except disappointment...

So as stated in the title, Are there even budget- friendly (<$500), accurate, airguns that won't leak after a couple of weeks?

Thanks for reading my rant,

scruffy,

Man that's terrible. I had a 25 caliber gauntlet that was moa at 100. I did work on it some by adjusting the trigger, buffing the cocking bolt, adding a 400 cc bottle, upping the reg to 2100psi. I did sell it but only because it wasnt really fitting my needs as a walk around hunter. It was super accurate right out the box.

Did you buy it from Pyramid air? I am actually considering the gauntlet as my next PCP, and I was just wondering would you ever consider recommending it to someone like me who's had nothing but issues with airguns?

Thanks,

Scruffy

I bought a used (mint) Bantam Hi Lite on these forums in that price range. Way more accurate than me and held air forever. You could watch the classifieds and find a used Air Arms in that price range. A used streamline would be worth watching out for....

Your other option would be to buy some spare o-rings when you make your next purchase. (all air guns SHOULD come with spares)

That's a good idea! A used high-end airgun would definitely be worth looking out for. I'd much rather have a leaker than an inaccurate gun because a leak theoretically is easier and less expensive to fix than an inaccurate gun.

Thanks for the advice,

GO GET A REFUND! Yep a PROVEN ACCURATE used gun something made in UK England or RUSSIA or Ukraine or Czech Republic specifically DUE TO your such luck. Good Luck. Yo!

Do you think they will even refund an inaccurate gun? Yeah I think you're right about getting a good quality airgun, considering my bad luck....

What guns do you reccomend?

As far as 'budget-friendly' accurate airguns that don't leak go:

Just in the past year or so, I've had:

ATI Nova Freedom .22
Hatsan Gladius .22
2 Kral Puncher Breakers in .22
Kral Puncher Nemesis .22/.25
Artemis P15 .22
Artemis PP700sa .22 pistol w/ folding stock [rifle hybrid]

I won't mentioned the handful of others as they cost over $1k/ea

But I'll say this much.. None of them ever leaked!
They were and are amazing rifles - Especially for the price!
Excellent accuracy and consistency, and very fun to shoot!

I didn't have to worry about a leaking gun or 'leaking gunS'
until' my Impact MKii showed up and then my Dream Tac Compact.
*Ordered from 2 different - Very reputable dealers - But BOTH leaked!
1 came at 0 psi, filed, leaked, repeat repeat repeat...
1 cam with a slow leak.

Both sorted out 'now', but, very Very VERY depressing/frustrating!
Around $3k spent and could not use or trust either one right out of the boxes.

Anyways.. My point.. Leaking can happen with Any PCP gun,
no matter the brand / model / price point.

The models that I mentioned - I've had the best luck with for the longest time. So far.

The Kral Puncher Breakers are some of my all time favorite rifles to shoot,
and if you paw through my comments and posts on here, you'll see that I say that a LOT.
There's a reason. [And I've gone through countless rifles over the past 25+ years]
1 of the PBs did have a valve/shaft failure, but, that was a very well known defect/issue,
that I was expecting to happen anyways. After the fix/upgrade, I trust it/them 100%

There are a LOT of other options out there! Much of the choice boils down to preference.

🙂👍

Sam -

are you filling these guns with clean dry air? i have 3 guns over 15 years old have never had a leak, my Korean gun both leaked few years old , theoben rapid 12 and air arms 410 and bsa super 10 all have never leaked .

Yes, I have a thermometer in the location where I pump, and it also has a humidity gauge (I forgot what it's proper name of the humidity tester is). The humidity is always under 45% even during hot humid days, I rarely see it go above 40%.

I don't think the humidity of the air I am pumping into my guns is causing them to group erratically, as both my Kral puncher breakers shot fantastic...

Thanks for the suggestion,

Scruffy

Well, the more you know!
