Anyone try eating starlings?

back in the depression people used to trap sparrows and eat them,
I China Rats are eaten , Some people think Carp (fish) is good eating ,
Back in 1984 when I was in Canada I was told the hamburgers were horse meat.
I do not know how true that story is , But they were good
and I got funny looks eating ketchup with my fry's

Heck yeah! Why would you waste the meat??
I usually make Karahi or sometimes fry it after marination.
Sometimes the meat goes to my cats when I don't wanna eat.
And rarely make BBQ.

Yes. As a son of European migrants that grw up in hard times,my father liked all game.The spring rat trap in the vegetable patch didn't discriminate any species of bird.Blackbirds,starlings,mynahs,thrush and the occasional dove.(NO rats.They are cat food.) Mum cooked them in a heavy cast iron pot with a rich sauce to garnish the polenta. Was OK,but I prefered when quail season was on.

I may be Andrew Zimmern like as I've eaten candied sheep eyes, raw grubs, and fired grasshoppers. But Starlings? You have to be kidding!

Now and then when hunting grouse in the mountains (shotgun), we shoot some starlings for an evening snack in the cabin. Yes, very skinny, but it gives you the "bird-taste" so to say.

In hard times many small birds were consumed in varieties of stews and pies. In a many foreign lands there were many questionable items spiced and garnished for consumption.which I had the opportunity to consume. When hungry or trying to survive the stomach rules over the palate...

Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie. I was in the Army and out of the country when my Dad decided to try this. Both parents, my sister and brother, all agreed after two bites that it was not edible.
He did this as a joke. I am glad that I missed the fun!?!?
