Anyone shot a 22 Nova Freedom or Seneca Aspen? Feedback wanted please...

Android, thanks

Do you mean this pictureattached

Color me dense/dumb/dimwitted;but it's still unclear to me where these go on the gun if there is a silencer attached to the barrel.

OK

How many ways can I feel un-schooled?

I think getting may hands on the gun will make a huge difference.

Verified today delivery by next Monday.

I'll clean the barrel, check for loose screws, and lube the pump.

Of course I still do not understand how curlers around the barrel have an effect; but will at some point come to understand

No mods until we have both shot the gun

Thanks for your patience Android

I got the Seneca Aspen a while back, mounted a scope and took it to the range.

The groups were the size of a medicine balls. On three occasions the pump handle stuck and I had to use brute force to get it free. I ordered extra (Marauder) magazines and they would not index to the next shot. The original magazine did the same thing.

I sent it back to PA and got a prompt refund.

Sounds like you got a lemon. Did you clean the rifle and check for loose anything? This will affect operations.

Yes, all of that. With everything wrong with it; I wasn't going to try to fix it.

I have a Marauder on order from the Crosman custom shop now.

The purchase of the Air Venturi portable compressor listed as a "must buy" item now.

Just on principle I would have asked for a replacement Aspen.

Not at all suggesting that is what you should have done

It is that one needs to impress upon vendors that quality control by their manufactures is an important issue.

(This is not meant to be a Pyramid Air issue; but more industry wide)

Perhaps over time this will sink in at the production end.

BTW I enjoy pokin' bears about as much as I do eliminating varmints from the orchard.

Yes, Android; screws,& lube are easy.

Other than a visual fo check for fit,& color check for type I'm not sure how to check O rings density.

The hardest part for me will be not shooting the new gun right out of the box;

and then even after some shots waiting 24 hours to see if it holds air at 3000lb.

Opinion please (Android & others)

Any harm done taking some shots before cleaning the barrel?

At targets of course; but not evaluating accuracy or sighting in

Hey Android

Thanks for asking

Yes the rifle showed up yesterday,

No issues with shipping or damage.

When unboxed the rifle had no air.

I pumped it to 3000 and let it sit overnight: and it lost no pressure

Also checked all stock screws & sight screws; but have not lubed the pump yet as it seems fine.

25 rounds of BN18.21 Barracuda Hunters through it so far

Roughing it in at 20' just to make sure I'm not shooting wild when at 10.15, & 35 yards

Out of the box it was shooting consistently low & right by about 2": and no wilds

Shooting standing, without a rest

Initial impressions

- good balance

- great safety

- smooth trigger

- consistent point of impact; So much so that I'm hesitant to clean the barrel

there's left to right play in the pump handle at the pivot point & lever connection; & no sign of a way to adjust that I have found i

pumping is harder than expected & I'm inverting the rifle on a bench rest to finish up the pumps

And yes, we are bonding

There are many things to like about this rifle that the hollow stock gets quickly forgotten

Much quieter than expected; and right now do not see a need for baffles or silencer.

About learning the artillery hold

The only rifles I've have ever shot are springers; & I'm still a novice with lots to learn.

However the hold,for some reason, came naturally;

Not gripping with the support hand must be totally counter intuitive for those coming from other types of rifle

With the Nova I am finding that when the butt is pulled back securely into the shoulder (trigger hand) and pressed consistently to the cheek the gun rests nicely and puts its weight on the open palm of the other hand (placed palm up) under the pump handle. The elbow is to the rib cage for support

As an FYI

I have been auditioning rifles for use in the home orchard

This ones a keeper so far!

I hear you loud & clear DesertSilver

In fact, before the most recent fill up I lubed the pump.

Lubed again 1/2 way through.

Will repeat the lubing for the next 1 or 2 pump sessions if needed

I'm sure the effort will become less as the pump works in.

Problem for me is finding a good hold while pumping.

My reach is just a tad too short.

Also wonder if the play in the pump handle (last message) is a factor;. although it does not look to be having an effect on an aligned pump stroke.

Thanks for the gardening metaphor Android

The way things stand now I'd be lopping down giant redwoods.

Here's the story

I have been lubricating a drop or 3 on each pump session;and within the session

The pumping got a little easier and I could pump with the gun across my lap

I found that the slop in the pump handle would allow me to jiggle it once or twice and make the pumping even easier.

However things have changed

There is now resistance in both directions

Starting from the closed position (gauge near 2000-2100)

- The handle opens with force behind it & then comes to rest at about a 60* angle to the barrel

- In this position you can feel the slop in the linkage as there is no pressure exerted in either direction

-Continuing to full open has now becomes an aggressive 1 hand or forceful 2 hand operation

- Once fully open, If the pump handle is let loose it springs with moderate force back to the 60* position

- From there to closed again requires force against the resistance until just before home.

- The handle then snaps into the closed position with enough force & clunk to bite your fingers

In the most recent pumping the gauge barely moved from 2000- 2200 after 25 pumps

On the previous pumping it took 63 pumps from 2100-3000.

(Not sure if this is a gauge issue or a pump concern)

Any input you , or the other guys/gals in the forum, can offer will be welcomed

I am about to American Tactical if it's ot too late in the day

On a follow up note

How's that hold coming along?

I did not mean to sound preachy with the advice;and hope it was not taken that way

Being a greenhorn I too have shooting problems to overcome.

Mostly involving sight picture: & controlling body movement when shooting without a rest
