Anyone own a Magpul bipod?

I have one for my Kidd 10/22. I also have an Accu-Tac SR-5 for my Crown.

The Magpul is not solid when legs are flipped out and it can only be used in the 90 degree position. When legs are out in the 90 degree position lots of movement in legs where they attach in the flip out mechanism. It does have cant and rotates which is a plus. You can lock it so it doesn't cant or rotate. All in all it is a ok bipod. Not in the same league as the Accu-Tac but is a 1/3 the cost. There are probably better bipods for the money.

I would not buy another one for a few reasons. The slop in mechanism, the lack of a 45 degree position and I would like a quick connect for it. Not sure if I can get one or not. The Accu-Tac on the other hand, I would buy again in a heartbeat.

I hope this helps.

Tom, I know you have lots of bipods and have tried lots more than those you own. I have various real (Accu Tac, Atlas and lots of Harris bipods) and fake bipods(never again though), my pride and joy is my Accu Shot, Atlas BT-35-LW-17 5-H bipod... However, as you know very well, the 5-H bipod is heavy, really heavy. It's all I ever want on my gun while at the bench but not when I'm in the field with my boys.

What would you recommend as the lightest, high quality bipod for everyday field use when I go out shooting with my boys? I want something very durable and reliable but I also want something light weight. My boys and I use bipods almost daily and would be lost without them, but none of us like shooting sticks or lugging around the tripod and gimbal head when we're in the field. We'd all rather just flop down on the ground and shoot prone with a bipod as our rock solid rest. That's probably from my 1000yd and PRS days, it works, so that's how I've taught my boys. I'm familiar with the Atlas and Accu Tac line up but I was wondering if there's something else out there that's really light weight. I've looked hard at the Atlas Cal as you know from previous discussions but I just haven't pulled the trigger. One caveat, before you say LRA, I've used the real deal, again, in my long distance shooting days (It was borrowed, not mine, so no, I can't sell it to you, it was sweet though...lol) so I'm leery of fakes even though it probably would fill the bill better than anything else out there??? Didn't you buy one? Anyway, any suggestions for a super light weight bipod would be appreciated.

Simply put, what would you buy for a durable, lightweight, rock solid bipod? Thanks bud.

Bigragu,

I'm pretty sure there is a Tipton and Tip Top, I think anyway? I think Tipton is the better known for their gun vises and cleaning vises though. Just google them and I'm sure something will pop up. For the money, Harris bipods are hard to beat, there are about a billion of them out there being used, because they work and work well. You can pick one up new for around $70 and on E-Bay for a lot less. They might not be as cool looking or as en vogue as the Atlas or Accu-Tac but they're great bipods! I see a lot more of them at the gun range than anything else, followed by Atlas and then Accu Tac. Mainly because they're function great, they're durable and priced right. I too have heard some mediocre reviews on the Mag-pul and at over $100 I think there are just better options out there. I've never used or seen one at the range though! Check out the Harris line of bipods, you might like it. If not, no harm, no foul. Have a good one Mr. Big Ragu!

I use the UTG Heavy Duty Recon 360 Bipods, and I absolutely love them!
They have features that models costing several times more don't even offer..

360 pan, cant/tilt, firmness adjustment, etc.

I've used them on both of my custom 10/22 bench-rest rifles,
and I use them on 4 or 5 of my PCP rifles. I'm losing track of how many I have now..

Every rifle I get gets one of these bipods. Without exception. I like them That Much.

🙂👍

Sam -

PS: I base the above opinion and use on 20+ years of messing w/ rifles and mounts..
Form/Function/Quality to Price Ratio - These things are Very Hard if not impossible to beat.

I'd go with an Atlas PSR or V8. You might also find a Gen 1 Accu-Tac BR-4. The non-adjustable length legs on the BR-4 make it a little lighter. There's no major reason why I didn't put the CAL out there except that you mentioned field use. The V8 & PSR have a lower profile which might make them a better choice. The weight difference is only about 2 oz.

I like Magpul for what it was intended ... just an inexpensive, durable, lightweight bipod that can use the great Atlas feet and extensions. I have a few for some AR's. Don't like them for benchrest though. I prefer the Atlas for benchrest or prone. Heavy but great lockup with smooth pan and tilt. I have one Harris with the Talon feet. Haven't tried the Accu-Tac.

I have two of them and they are nice for there purpose as others have said. Both are on 18" AR 5.56 platforms and take advantage of the magpul slots (i can't comment on the pict rail model). I would buy them again for their purpose and like them better again for the AR platform with a magpul slotted handguard than I do my Harris on the same, but I would not use them on a bench rest or prs set up. Acc-tac is much better than anything I have used for that application imho.
