Anyone having trouble identifying items on that ReCaptcha?

i use glasses, and still, some of the items like stoplights, or chimneys off in the distance, I can’t see chit! I don’t know if the photo quality of the images are bad, or it’s just me. Some of the items aren’t correct, either. The other day it asks to identify all chimneys, which there were two, but it wanted me to click on one other, which was a double wall B vent, or flue pipe, which could be for a water heater, so it’s not a chimney.

I don’t mind doing the recaptcha, just wish the pics weren’t so dim and fuzzy

I'm far-sighted and don't wear my 'reading glasses' like I'm supposed to, so I feel your pain..
Most of the time, I just have to click a box to prove that I'm not a robot, but I did run across the photo captchas too..
I think they popped up when helping out a member in the classifieds section..
I just had to identify all pics with bicycles in them.. And once done, it brought up even more.. Uh.. Okay..

Sort of annoying, but, I guess if it helps keep out all of that even more annoying spam..

🙂

Spam -

Er, Ah, I mean . . . SAM -

🤣

Hahaha, that's Great!

I've tried susi cubes before, and I've tried Spam before,
but never in a million years would I have thought to mix the two together.. What a crazy hybrid!
Where in the world did you two even find something like that? Of course I have to try them now.
If I can stomach those little chunks of hotdogs in a can, I can stomach anything. lol

Lucky for me, at 38, I'm still built like a 13 year old.. like a buck and a quarter soaking wet..
i Wish I could pack on a few pounds..

Hahaha omg your weight comment reminded me of that saying: "More Chins than a Chinese phone book".

Too funny dude!

sonny,

Thanks for the heads up! I just looked into it again, and apparently it's known as "Spam Musubi".
You nailed it.

Wikipedia:
"Spam musubi is a popular snack and lunch food in Hawaii composed of a slice of grilled Spam
on top of a block of rice, wrapped together with nori in the tradition of Japanese omusubi.
Inexpensive and portable, Spam musubi are commonly found near cash registers
in convenience stores all over Hawaii."

I did a quick search to see if any of the restaurants near me [Upstate NY] might have it, but,
the closes places were either in Canada, or, NYC area [South probably 5-6 hours from me]

*Jotting this one down on my bucket-list*

PS: After chatting here about the photo captchas,
the very next thread I posted on, one popped up.. Go figure..
Just a single 3-click choice that time, no round-2.

I’m confused. If I’m signed in as a member, why are those SUPER ANNOYING captcha things needed?

Last week, the site was inundated with some sort of 'spam attack'..
There were nothing but Chinese characters all over the place, and it continued on/off for a few more days..
Mods put a few steps in place hoping to prevent it from happening again in the future.

There's a screen shot that I grabbed a day or so after the main issue was initially resolved..
Look at the post 3 threads down, and imagine every single category and topic looking that way..
Apparently, there were hundreds of them..

👍

Sorry about the captcha everyone. If you haven't heard we had a very persistent spammer earlier this week. We put a few things in place to deter him (including a recatcha), but he kept coming back for more.

After dozens & dozens of fake accounts & several hundred fake topics we had to implement stronger security. For most of your posts a simple captcha check box will be presented. If Google deems necessary you may get the pictures instead.

We are looking into additional methods of security so that verified users wont be presented with the captcha at all.

Thanks for understanding.

Frankly I don't think it has to do with my aging eyes. I'm on AGN via my iPhone 90% of the time. It's a small screen, and those pictures are blurry, confusing. I understand the need for it and know it's needed at the moment, but it could be cleaner looking.

I'm not sure how doable this kind of thing would be, but I inquired about having a TSA style PreCheck in place. The idea being that a member would be verified somehow and cleared to post without having to reCaptcha each time.

You’re lucky that age hasn’t put on the pounds yet, lol. I stepped on one of those scales at the county fair and the ticket that came out said “ one at a time, please”

im just kidding, I’m not that bad, but I gotta stay on top of it. I think the years of hitting the iron, along with heavy construction work has taken its toll on me, and resulted in all kinds of back, knee and cervical surgeries. I often wonder if the bodybuilding “medications” had anything to do with the breakdown of the body, lol. Young and dumb, I was. Today, with the fused up back at 9 continuous levels, it’s much harder to stay in shape. I’m relying on diet mostly and less of the iron lifting to keep in shape. So, yeah, even though I’d like to get more, no more spam sushi for me, lol. For those of you that haven’t tried it though, you have to. It is addicting, especially if you like sushi.

Bigragu,

I see those scales at the state fair every year, so I know exactly what you mean..
The problem I have is, when I step on one, it says: "Please step on scale", so I jump up and down a few times,
the screen flashes, I stand there, and it says: "Please step on scale"... Ahhhh! There's no winning! haha

I'll tell ya what.. we'll have to trade sometime. 😜

Ohh yeeaah.. All that type of abuse to the body over the years will definitely impact us later on in life..
I lucked out with high metabolism, but, also got whacked with cancer twice.. [Hodgkyn's Lymphoma]
Lots and lots of insane chemo, and also won a nice lifetime supply of radiation too..
I think that's probably why I can't gain to save my life - remember things to save my life,
act normal to save my life, and so on. hahaha

Spam Susi - Oh wait . . . My taste buds are also pretty nuked, so I might not taste that stuff very well anyways..
Eh', screw it . . . I'm still going to find it and give it a try!

🤣

Guys, if you're not familiar..

There are ways to break down the imag[es] in a photograph - the same way biometric facial imaging works..
Think facial recognition - And then apply that to say a search engine.. I use google image search a Lot for graphics work,
and sometimes I'll drag and drop photos into the search bar - to let google's image search engine do it's magic for me..
Results are getting much better over the years..

That said - the clearer the image you start with - The easier it is and faster it is for the engine to match, and show results.
Well, the same can be said for these annoying spam programs..

With the Captcha photos - They're blurry on purpose.. Using blurry/pixelated thumbnails is part of the idea..
It is supposed to make it easier for People to spot and select certain things, while making it harder for image scanning software..
If there were crisp, in focus, perfect images, it would be easy to write a program that could identify and select them..

I know that tech is already out there, but, I doubt it's used on forums like this..

So, that said - we're suck with those - for the time being..

And as for the "I'm not a robot" selection box, I get those every single time I'd like to make a thread/post/reply/edit/etc.
At this point, I'm already used to it..

I think I noticed a Plus Side to that also..

Before that was in place, I would tend to type fast, and "reply too quickly" while talking to multiple people on here,
or jumping from thread to thread.. Even editing, so, there was a mandatory time-out, and I'd have to sit and wait..

Not anymore.. I can type fast, click I'm not a robot, and then bang out replies / entering as fast as I can..

IMO, that is much nicer, it helps conversations flow.

Anyways, enough rambling outa' this kid.. for now.. 😜
