Anybody machined a stainless LW barrel blank?

I know this is a long shot, but thought id ask. Has anybody here machined a Lothar Walther stainless airgun blank before? I've done it on their normal steel blanks, but not the stainless. Just wondering if it's awful to work with or about the same or possibly easier? I know stainless can tend to work harden in some instances, but there are a lot of different grades of "stainless".

I'll probably be purchasing a blank soon to fit to a rifle, and had the wild ass idea of going with a stainless one for a change.

I popped in to say that JSAR used to stock and offer customizing / machining / etc. for barrel blanks..
The last time I checked their site though, bbls are or at least 'were' no longer listed..

That said, I figured I'd mention "T.J.'s"
While I haven't used them personally, I've only heard the absolute best of reviews!
Great place, Great service, Their customers love them and their products!

So a +1 for them

I did one in 22cal, 18mm 605mm barrel with conventional rifling.

I found it to machine way easier than the regular non-SS blanks from LW.

I machined it with a dcgt07 polished carbide insert for aluminium, worked like a charm with a very smooth finish.

@mtnGhost The barrel was turned down over the complete length to 18mm OD, so I highly doubt they use tubing for the stainless steel barrels. I know they do use tubing for the non-SS barrels.

TS is talking about LW Stainless Steel barrels.

LW guy specifically mentions: "we don't offer these in Stainless" which kind of confirms my answer 😉

LW SS airgun barrel, 18mm OD.

You can clearly see the machining marks, the OD is turned down at LW.

Can't think of a reason why they should turn down the OD of a precision tube.
