Anybody have an American Air Arms Slayer .357?

"hvack"Hey marcel is your impact a new version ? If you have it to do all over and didn't have an impact would you risk getting one again , ( that had no issues) ?
hvack:

I guess it was, since it didn't need the replacement probe screw. I no longer have my Impact .30. I sold her to buy a RAW HM 1000x .357 (130 ft-lbf regulated). I had no real issues with my Impact, except for a minor bottle leaking problem caused by frequent swapping-out of spare bottles. But, I use a pony bottle now in the field, so no more field-swapping of bottles. I bought an FX Wildcat. 25 for my small-game hunting needs. I do not need all the adjustability of the Impact, and .25 cal. is plenty power for bunnies; plus the WC is lighter and more stream-lined.
How does the raw compare ? is it heavier Will you be carrying it in the field ? how is the accuracy in comparison ?
I currently have my RAW for sale (http://www.airgunnation.com/topic/wts-raw-hm-1000x-130-ft-lbf-regulated/). I wanted to use her for a small-game rifle, but she's too heavy for me to carry in the field. That's a shame too, because she shoots like a howitzer and is uber-accurate out to 150 yds (and beyond). She is legal to hunt deer in some states. (You can legally hunt black bear in AZ with her!)

Thanks Batman...I am looking for a light (er) multi shot .357 for hunting medium critters. I spoke to Jim today at WAR about a Flex and he says they are weighing 7 lbs. 8 oz.
Left a message with Sandra today at RAW about a HM.357. Perhaps a "lighter" stock could get that rifle below 8 lbs. We'll see what turns up. Would love to stay below 10 lbs with scope and mounts.

@mark2cars...technically you 'can' tweek the power down a bit, but for the mist part it's designed balls-out! Didn't get the M2R yet, but from what I've experienced with it so far it's a quality piece! Doesn't shoot as good as the Slayer but has a bit more polish. I don't think you're gonna find a .357 lighter than the Slayer. Great gun...just takes forever to ship.

I seriously considered the Slayer .357 for a hot NY minute, until I saw she took a 300 bar fill (plus the shot count is problematic). Do you find any issues with filling from a pony bottle in the field?

"ddransoml""Pony bottle!"
My big Omega tank had problems filling it to 3600psi. The shot count made me raise a derisive eyebrow, too, but once it's dialed in and it exhibits it's laser accuracy past 100yrds while still dumping more than 100fpe on target...well...you'll forgive the aforementioned shortcoming real quick-like!
These factors are what steered me away from the Slayer. I have a Wildcat .25 for legal hunting in CA, and a RAW .357 regulated for legal hunting in AZ. The WC fills to 230 bar and gives 41 regulated shots per fill, and the RAW fills to 250 bar and gives 20 regulated shots per fill. I do like the bullpup of the Slayer, however. (How much does she weigh?) I must admit, my RAW, at 48" and 13 pounds dressed-out, is a chore in the field.

Raw is not in the same class really. Power will take volume. The SLAYER will shoot bullets which will be much more effective on larger game. 275FPE is pretty hard to beat out of compact package. How many shots do you need at this level?

Bottom line....Any .25 pellet or .357 pellet will be inferior to what the SLAYER is slinging down range = 140gr bullet at 1000fps! Yeah I think so.

If I were to seek power I'd honestly get a Texan, 48" but only 7.7~ lbs unscoped, with a 20 oz scope and 12 oz bi-pod you're likely around 10 lbs. 500 cc's of air and with 350 FPE potential out of the box in .357" and even more potential with a modified valve, you cannot really beat its performance especially at the price and availability. JMO :)

I'd rather have a custom tailored Texan that has 2,000$ invested into it than an out of the box Raw or Slayer...to each their own though. Doug Noble won the Big Bore EBR recently with his as well so the rifle has plenty merit and credibility. I personally don't own a Texan so I have no reason to recommend them other than what I've seen on paper.

If you want light weight, just have a custom aluminum air tube within safety specs made for your rifle along with a light weight stock, I brought my 7.3 lb rifle down to 4.8 lbs by doing this for just a couple hundred bucks. If the thought of modifying a 2,000$ rifle that much to save weight bothers you then I guess that's another reason to not consider a 2,000$ rifle!

Bullets do not group well past 50 yards at subsonic velocities.

@DanT55...Yessir!
@marcella69...the Slayer really does sling 'em at a long, flat trajectory. Tom Costan did an impressive job. The stuff at Pyramydair shot fair, but the slugs from Neilsen Specialty Ammo and Pellet Garden John were exceptional.
@ackuric...i only shot 2 slugs out of the Texan (I'm an Air Force fan boy) and it is a solid platform; yup, can most definitely dump a wad customizing it, but trust me when I say the Slayer is coming out the showroom without having to be sent to Roush or Saline! Your only worry is what glass to put on it.
If customizing is what makes it fun for you then you'll be disappointed in the Slayer...the m#thaf#<ka is complete.

UGH!

Had several paragraphs typed & poof.
NOT retyping it all, sorry.

AGAIN ? " Bullets do not group well past 50 yards at subsonic velocities"
You know this is NOT correct, you do NOT speak from 1st hand knowledge as other do, why why why keep throwing out "facts" that are NOT?

Hope all opf you have a happy day, and everyone else too.

OK..OK..OK...I am sorry that I found this thread.....not really !!!! Just when I decide to walk away on a Texan I read something else about how
accurate they can be. Have only decided on one thing right now...I want whatever I buy in .357. Good shot count with most manufacturers and
reasonably priced ammo and I can't justify a .308 for an all round shooting. If this were a "big game" gun then .308 or bigger. Anyone know where
a fellow could get a better trigger for the AirForce Texan ?
