Any opinions on the Crosman 1701P PCP Pistol?

I love mine. I'm not exactly a practiced target shooter...more like a hack...but I've shot in some of the GTA 10m pistol online matches with decent success. I've been too busy in the last couple months, but I'll start back up in October sometime.

As for sights, I put a Williams target blade sight on mine, the same that comes on the 2300S CO2 pistol. I tried a scope but didn't like the weight and difficulty of good sight alignment. For killing paper, the 1701 is a great gun. It shoots in the low 400fps range, so if you plan to do much past 10m you may want to consider the 1720T.

I just received my pre-loved 1701P yesterday and I am really enjoying it. Extremely well balanced mine came with an uninstalled Williams blade sight once I got that installed and zeroed in I can pepper a small sticky dot off hand at 25'. I have most of C02 pistols scope but I am really enjoying the open site for now. The trigger isn't bad stock I have a new wider aftermarket blade on the way between that and some polishing it will be much improved. Mine came with some wood aftermarket grips to replace the not so nice stock grips. I really think you would like the 1701P it's a nice pistol stock comes with a Walther barrel and is quick and easy to fill with my Hill MK3 pump. I hope this info helps your buying decision. Stock accuracy was good enough to hit a fly on the target at 50 yards 95% of the time, rested on a bag. Power "can" be upped to 11fpe with roughly a 24 shot count. Good ( not match grade but very very good) trigger, if you are willing to adjust until there is NO safety it is close to 4oz and still passes the smack with a rubber mallet test.
Bolt handle may be swithed left/right. Front sight adjusts for width, and I " believe" somewhat for height?
An outstanding value for the money.
CAN be used with one hand without severe strain.

Esp. if you shop for price/wait for sale, nothing else comes close for the money. In hands better than mine it certainly would be capable of wining any event, and, meets all requirements - price, weight, other- for most all official air pistol competitions.

IF you wanted more power the 1720T will make 12fpe and 34 shots with simple home tuning/adjustments and is also a one ragged hole at 50 yard pistol thought , just, slightly longer/heavier.

leaning to the 1701p. slightly lighter, shorter. From all reviews, accurate, adjustable enough, and in the right price range. Just have to finish saving pennies to afford. Also, add another $40 or $50 for rear sights as I intend to go open sights instead of optics. Maybe as my eyes get worse, I'll get a pistol scope later?

Need light as arms aren't the strongest in the world, I know the gun will out-shoot me any day.

Just gotta save those pennies, as they said in Star Wars, Almost there!

saltlake, What kind of competitions do you consider? Pistol Field Target or silhouette. The 1701 fits the bill for silhouette but you may/would need more power for the Field Target. The 1720T has both transfer ports to put you in either category. With the larger port the gun gets up to around 750 FPE. with the smaller port it puts it around 12FPE . The bonus does not stop there as you can get a $20.00 stock from Amazon that will make it a nice carbine for a better hold, and with a good scope you could possibly venture into the rifle FT.
Ray Apelles has won numerous world competitions and used a 1720T with a custom stock and one in a challanger stock for back up with a little longer barrel. (When he was still sponsored by Crosman) But for fun shoots at most clubs the standard barrel may do.

Also if you go to amazon to order the stock get the 1377 at $20.00 not the 1399 at $30.00. I was informed that the 1377 is the 1399? (by Crosman) Either way it is cheaper and fits perfect! Good lick with your search....

Probably Silhouette, not field target. No field target groups in the area. Mostly looking for a pistol to practice with rather than pulling out the powder burner and heading for the range. Looking to just develop the muscle memory needed to handle a pistol well.

I'd like to keep the pistol competition legal, just in case the opportunity arises. So, I think the silhouette standard is where I'm headed.

I like the 1720, but the longer barrel makes me think it'd be a bit harder to control. I'd like to shoot one, but have no access at this point.

1701P is a really nice pistol I changed the trigger blade to a better fitting trigger with a really nice comfortable wide blade. While changing the trigger I polished all the metal on metal and where applicable used my favorite grease Hot Sauce by Quantum. In an hours time I improved an already decent trigger into a smooth as silk (for all you old Kessler drinkers) pure pleasure to squeeze off of shots with this trigger pack.
Other than the trigger I swapped grips to a different set than I received with my used 1701P. Nice thing about the grips there interchangeable with 22xx series grips which I already owned several nice wood sets to choose from. This gun is so well balanced it's really fun to shoot off hand. I am going to try a nice light weight pistol scope hopefully the balance will remain. With the right scope and a bag I can imagine it will lay down some impressive groups.
Before buying the 1701P I already own 2 Prods basically the .22cal version of 1720T less the clip and LW barrel in my opinion for a pistol the 1701P wins hands down. The Prod or 1720 series makes a great little carbine.

1/4" 19 shot group at 50 yards! That's amazing!
