Any of you Red Wolf guys shoot a lot on the "LOW" power setting?

I had huntsman and cricket both set at extremely low power for a while. They shoot well but finally I increase the power.

I shoot huntsman at around 16 joules and cricket 6 joules then rise it to 16, 20 and up.

I set them at 42 and 52 joules. Holdover was kind of hard at that power. harder than that the shoot placement. I hit a pigeon in the head but it didn't killed it. I could see it's left part is numb and the bird become dizzy but still alive. fallowing shoot didn't kill it and that bird suffered until it's time came. Even at 20 joules I hit something that I don't remember, I saw pellet hit it's head but couldn't go in to it's skull.

Now I don't use that power setting any more but it would be useful for plinking and killing something inside a closed area.

When I used the 18.1s I always shot them on low power because that's the only power they liked. 870fps out of my RedWolf HP, but I have switched to the 25gr Redesigned now and wont go back to 18.1s. This pellet on high power is a laser and bucks the wind as good as my 25cal does. Flys at 1000fps and when it hits a critter it is amazing to see the explosion. Best part is still very back yard friendly and quite. On high power the 18.1s were very unstable in flight and would spiral horribly.

Mine's a .177 and its only 2 days old so still learning it.

High is a little too high (and loud) for me so I've been testing between Med and Low. Low seems to be a little less consistent over the chrony but shoots 8.4's just as accurately and only 25FPS lower than it shoots 10.3's on Med (still seems odd to me). That's good for me since nothing else I have likes the 8.4's and the diff in poi is almost unnoticeable at the mid ranges (25-30y). I'm gonna have to make 2 range cards since I set .177's up as if there were for FT. Short ranges and the longer ranges wont match up nearly as well. But, I'll get the advantage of quiet and much better shot count with shooting on low.

Longer range testing tomorrow...

With my Red Wolf .22 I've been shooting the JSB EXACT 15.9 gr pellets on LOW and getting excellent accuracy to my targets set at 30 yards. And so quiet... it's really unbelievable. I love how quiet this rifle is!

For hunting squeaks and rabbits, I step up to the JSB EXACT 18.13 gr, set the power level to HIGH, raise my Aztec Emerald scope elevation turret by 1.75 and again, awesome accuracy also to my 30 yard targets.

The Red Wolf is not significantly louder on HIGH, but is noticeably louder.

And today I also tried some H&N Baracuda Match 21.14 gr with great accuracy as well... same hold as with the 18.13 gr JSBs. Kip at AoA recommended the 21.14 gr Baracudas for small game and I find that it shoots great in my Red Wolf. Quite accurate.

I don't have my chrony yet, but from what I can tell from Daystate's test firing, the 21 gr pellets should be giving me about 35 fpe. Perfect for my mostly plinking/target purposes!

Mostly, I will be plinking and target shooting to 40 yards or so on LOW power with the 15.9 gr JSBs. This is unbelievably FUN!
