Any News on STX liner B and or Slug liners for Impact .25?

When theres delays theres reason. My guess? Over-zealous and overly ambitious. FX has a great business model. Rinse, repeat, Bell, Rinse, repeat, Whistle, Rinse, repeat. Crazy how much hype FX can build up for things that take a year + to release with little criticism, yet when any other company does similar they generally never hear the end of it and receive all types of hate...

Yeah, I have thought about that, Cpt. Cannon, and my Impact Gen. 1 tops off at 150 Bar which will fire a King Heavy MKII at around 910-915 fps. Not too good, though, for a heavier slug. Guys like Matt Dubber are shooting slugs out of the X model with it's beefier regulator at around 170 Bar from what I've heard.

The only way I can do that is to get the HUMA regulator high speed version that will reach 170 BAR

Thinking at this point I'll bag the idea of a slug liner for this gun and get the B liner for MKII and be done with it. Anyone wanna buy my A liner, haha. Wish info on that liner had been released prior to the barrel's release so I would have waited for the B. Feeling a bit snookered on that one.

I don't hunt that much so I think the slug liner might not be in the cards for me. Would be fun to mess with, though.

So... that being said. Do you guys think that the 34.7 grain slugs won't perform better than the 25 grain jsb pellets or even the MKII?
My crown has been tuned for the MKII 34 grain jsbs, the weight on both pellets is almost the same. I expected them to perform similar (FPS wise) but with a better flying curve and higher BC.

If I were to guess, and I am just guessing, there is a reason for this: FX's pace of new releases is comparatively relentless and they exist out on the cutting edge. They also are reliably late, but only fashionably late not stupidly late. Contrast that with the Umarex Hammer which has been "just a few months out" for several years now. And as much as we think of FX as an airgunning behemoth, I'm betting they're actually a very small company comparatively speaking in terms of number of employees, cash flow, etc.

Regarding why what seems so simple has taken so damn long to show up, I've got two hypotheses.
1) There is a lot more mass to spin in a slug, so they probably need deeper rifling to bite effectively. Given how FX makes barrels, this is probably a lot more challenging for them than a company which makes barrels via button rifling, cut rifling, CHF, etc.

2) They're probably not expecting it to be a high volume or high profit product, and so the little fun side development projects often are shoved aside in favor of things that'll generate real cash flow for the company. In the case of FX specifically, they're showing a variety of signs of strain when it comes to manufacturing capacity. Take the Dreamline for example. By and large it is just a hodgepodge of other parts they're already manufacturing with some clever integration. That doesn't make it bad, far from it, but it means that dev. time probably isn't what is slowing it down, it is probably machine time at their manufacturing facility. If they're struggling to keep up with demand on whole rifles, methinks producing slug liners for us freaks is just not the priority.

Of course none of this is meant to make excuses. I'm generally of the opinion that companies should meet deadlines and deliver what they promise, but FX seems to be run by the Axelson cult of personality and part of his creativity is his optimism. Certainly nobody else is stepping up to do what they do, so I guess that adds me to the list of people who will "just put up with it."

Wanted to chime in to help clear things up. As we know the liners have been delayed more than we initially intended. Good news is that it's a priority for us to get right and get out to the market. Part of the initial slow down is that Fredrik found a better "secret sauce" way to get the barrels just right. Here's what was posted on another thread with updates:

Just an update for Airgun Nation members on liners:

The .22 Slug liner A is ramping up production and FX USA will be getting a large amount of liners in various lengths (500mm, 600mm, and 700mm for a new Impact 700mm .22 cal barrel) towards the end of January / beginning of February.

The .25 Slug liner A is being perfected by Fredrik, Johan and Matt Dubber this month (actually next week) and we should finally see these in February. Thanks for your patience and FX wanted to get them just right.

They are also working on the .30, but the .25 will come first.

FXUSA will also be restocked on Pellet Liner B options in .22 & .25 by the end of January. (Shipment just left Sweden today for us actually)

Again thanks for the patience and the feedback. 2018 was a very busy year for FX with the opening of FX USA, the ongoing rolling improvements to the existing line of guns, and the perfecting of the Dreamline that is just now starting to arrive. We may not always post directly to these threads (as per AGN guidelines we want to separate church and state and not intrude on discussions between passionate airgunners), but we are definitely reading and watching for the feedback we need to constantly improve and raise our game for the betterment of all in this wonderful sport of ours.

Appreciate all of your feedback AGN!

Thanks FX ....please ignore the hater(s), the rest of us don't mind waiting a little bit if it means a better first experience.

As for what pressures the guys are running to get the higher velocity from the heavier slugs, check out the Air Hunters videos.

Gerhard is shooting the 26gr slugs at 940ish FPS at 150bar from the 700mm barrel.

Roelf is shooting the 23gr slugs at around the same speed at 155bar from the 600mm barrel.

I haven't heard or seen where they or Matt are needing 160bar or higher, in fact Air Hunters have advised against it.

I'll say this now, if I have to use 160+bar to get the appropriately weighted slugs to fly stable and accurately, I'll scrap the whole idea and just stick with pellets.

Preorders and product announcements can be frustrating but they can also save you a lot of money. For example.. I was going to buy a Streamline a few months back until I saw the YouTube video about the Dreamline. I would have been upset with myself for buying the Streamline only to have an updated version released a few months later.

I don't really understand this separation between Church and State but I can say that Jack Wood the lead Engineer for Planet Eclipse (Daystate guys probably know who Jack is) is on the message boards talking to customers on a daily basis. It is one of the reason's Planet Eclipse sells more high end guns than the rest of the manufactures combined. I don't see how interaction with the guys who make the product could ever be considered a negative. Oh yeah... and Planet Eclipse provides enough O rings with the gun to rebuild it several times! NOT BASHING Just a suggestion...

Bob, I would hope you can get there without having to use pressure of 160Bar...I really want to see that 150 yard slug shot!

Personally I'm a bit concerned about Retrofitting/Modifying a Crown to that kind of pressure (160Bar) without somehow affecting reliability of the rifle. Maybe one simply has shorter replacement intervals for certain "o" rings or the rifle will endure just fine. Not immediately clear. I find it pretty astounding that Huma's Extra High Pressure Regulator for the Impact is rated 145 - 160Bar. Higher farther faster...it never ceases to amaze me where the pursuit of greater performance takes an enthusiast.

As you and I have chatted and debated; How much do I want to invest in a second .22 caliber setup just for slugs? Buy a 600mm Impact barrel in .22 and adapt it to the Crown? Based on one's interests it has to start becoming cost ineffective at some point but there are those air gunners who will stretch the envelope just to see if it can be done. I don't begrudge them their enthusiasm in doing so, however my wallet starts getting pretty nervous at times when I read about it!
