Any new comments on the Crown??

Looking at possibly ordering a Crown near the end of the year and was curious if anyone had any new comments or updates on their expeeiences with the Crown now that there are a few in the wild.

To those who are lucky enough to own one, I have a couple questions:

How effective is the shroud and is it threaded?

How long is it? There isn’t any OAL or weight info listed anywhere..

thanks!!

Might be the same weird thread on the new version of the Wildcat too. I got the Sumo for my Wildcat and man, I don't think it gets any more backyard friendly. All I can hear is the hammer smack and the target impact.

Ok so comments on the new Crown: I mentioned that I cleaned it first in another thread. And as usual it took a few shots to settle in. Also, the reg has to break in a bit. But as I shoot it more, the groups are tightening up. Maybe a little of the gun, maybe a little of me getting used to the gun.

I found that adjusting the hammer down from max is very nice for the back yard if you need it. Just going from MAX down to 5 makes a huge difference in the sound, but only decreases the fps from 912 avg to 899 avg. I'll send more data when I have it. But if you know what I'm talking about when I say the "tune is balanced", the Crown sounds more balanced at 5 than on MAX. Set on MAX, I hear a lot of air going out behind the pellet. Sort of a whoosh. Like a long cough sound. But on 5 I get a nice "putt", a very short cough, and no wasted air. I want to shoot an entire string on 5 and see what the data says. I bet I get several more shots per fill and I only sacrifice a few fps. BUT, I don't intend on tuning a lot for a while. I want to give things a chance to break in, including ME to the gun :)

Also found that at the current settings (MAX), it shoots the 34's at low 800's. But it is very accurate. So far, very nice gun and loads of fun. I think my only complaint would be a very minor one. I had the Atlas BT10 rail installed and I am not exactly thrilled with the way it looks. But that is something no one else would notice.
Over all, very happy with this new girl. I'll pass along more data as I collect it for those who are interested.

"terrymc"The shroud is very effective.
I have both a Crown in 30 cal and a RAW in 30 cal.
The Crown is way quieter than the RAW even with the carbon wrapped moderator on the RAW.

It is also a very accurate gun as well. piling pellet on top of pellet at my short home range.

So you are saying the Crown is quieter than the RAW? I may have to ask about that and get the better moderator. I say that because I think my Crown with the moderator extended is just on the margin of back yard friendly for me. Anything louder would make me nervous that I would be bothering someone.
Time to go find a case for the Crown that can deal with the gun with the scope on. Maybe a Pelican?

Hey, do you happen to have a picture of your Crown with the Atlas BT10 installed? After you mentioned how you aren't super thrilled with the appearance, I'm really curious to see for myself.

Crusher,
Yeah it is a bit louder than the Crown, I have had a couple shooters comment that the 30 cal RAW is just a little loud for their taste.

Another case option is the single gun case by Cabelas, it is a little shallow without cutting the foam but it fits any of my guns.
I just remove the wheel from the Hawke 10-50.
I like the o-ring seal and the drawtite latches on it. Quite a bit cheaper than the Pelican.

No news is good news. I'm just happy not to read about too many complaints. Wish I had heeded the multiple issues with the Impact...my Impact had almost every problem you could think of. Although I corrected most of the problems myself I could not fix a junk regulator. I now have a Crown .30 on order and I pray it's reliable and consistent like my Wildcat. That high maintenance Impact is gone now. I'm looking forward to a more traditional relationship with less drama.

The part that I don't like isn't with the look of the rail itself. I don't like the way the holes were drilled and I see a crack in the wood. That tells me something about the way it was installed. So much for expecting a better install than I could have done myself.

Shot several mags through the Crown yesterday and I have to say this gun is a pleasure to shoot. I think things are still settling in, but I posted a picture in another thread showing the one hole made with 18 shots @ 33 yards.
Everything is butter smooth. From the charging bolt to the sweet second stage trigger let off. I purchased a Royale 500 before the Crown and let it go back because I wanted the adjustability of the Crown. For a few weeks, I was kicking myself because that Royale 500 was so sweet. However, this Crown is just as sweet and even more. The adjustment I made from Max power down to 5 on the hammer makes a huge difference in the way it shoots. That ability to tune it down just a hair is what I was looking for in the Royale.

There is a pretty big front coming today and if I can get out before the 40 mph winds get here, I plan on shooting over the chrono and getting a couple of full strings for comparison to the first 2 strings on this gun. We'll see what that data looks like. I'll try to get one at MAX and one of 5 and see how they differ.

I was able to get some data on the Crown today. I wanted to shoot 2 strings but life gets in the way. I shot this string at 5 on the power wheel instead of MAX because it feels a bit more balanced. I wanted to see this string (somewhat broken in and on 5) compared to the MAX string.

At max I get
High: 907
Low: 895
AVG FPE 45.68
SHOTS 68
ES 12

On 5 I get
High: 906
Low: 893
AVG FPE 45.54
SHOTS 81
ES 13

So virtually the same numbers in everything, just slightly lower, but jump from 68 to 81 shots. The gun is also noticeably quieter. I no longer get that swoosh of air following the pellet.

In the meat of these 2 strings I get

I could bump it up to max and shoot another string if I had the time. But I bet that since the gun is broken in more than when i shot that first string, the upper end would be somewhere around 915-920. But I wanted to compare these two stings to prove to myself that it is breaking in and that I'm not losing much dropping down to setting 5. i think I'm going to keep it here until I'm shooting the heavies. I may need the extra boost to push that 34 grain pellet.

One thing I did notice in that string today is that when it fell off the reg, it dropped to its low for about 3 shots and then began to climb. Ended around 906 again before it started to drop because of low air pressure. I shot down to about 110 bar from 230 bar to be sure she was off the reg. Seems odd to be off the reg and still shooting in the 900's. But that is what happens when you come off the knee of the reg.

And, just a sweet shooting gun. A pleasure to spend time with. Worth every dime for this nice shooting, comfortable, accurate gun. If you can afford one, buy one.

These gauges aren't very accurate, but the Crown is showing just under 125 BAR of reg pressure. I might be tempted somewhere along the way to bump it up a bit to shoot the heavies. But I think for now, it is shooting like a dream and I'll just leave it where it is.
Maybe once I get the shooting lane I'm looking for and I want to try out to 100-150 yards I'll consider raising it to maybe 130 BAR and shooting the heavies. Otherwise, I'm happy where it is. Getting 80 shots is awesome.

Beautiful gun Michael. Looks a bit like mine. And I have found the same with the power. It came about 120 bar on the reg and I crank it down to 5 on the hammer and find it to be a real pleasure to shoot. And I don't suppose a gun could be more accurate. As long as I do my part, the pellets drop like a hammer. So glad to own one of these.

LOL.. our two pictures look like "one in the wild, one in captivity".
