Any benefit to converting Texan 457 CF to 257

Man these are hunting rifles right? That's a big jump. What you planning on shooting with the 257.

The barrel will fit no problem...but the valve is useless for a 257 .. you will need a 257 valve that you could install in the carbon fiber tank..barrel is like $360 + shipping..valve has to be close to $200 with the few other parts you will need..or you could buy the African air ordnance 257 conversion .

I would just convert it. It's like having 2 guns in 1. Parts look straightforward to swap out too.

All you need is a breech, valve front and a barrel.

Call Airforce for the parts.

All the valve bodies are the same. You just need the front part assembly. Stem, brass part and poppit.

African air ordnance barrel is 28" -- airforce texan barrel is 34" long...their short barrel are more hunting oriented than long range shootin..but you shouldn't have no problem up to 400y ..that is as far I have seen some one shoot accurately a short barrel the 26 1/2" Cedric talon door...any longer distances barrels go up to 36" long..

Barrel length has nothing to do with accuracy. Longer makes more power. That gives you more shots when setup right. Short barrel uses more air to make power 

I would go to AF to convert. Af will not warranty if you use Aao parts

Not that I know of. I have built guns with 28-38" barrels and they all shoot good. With the longer barrel your not running it maxed out to try and get what a longer barrel gets easy. 

As far as PB guns there is no diffence there either.

I wonder if the accuracy of 257 is worth the pain in the butt, or if there is any way to get the 457 up to 200-300 yards and fairly accurate.

I don't see why you couldnt reach out to 200-300 yards with the .457. Pick a bullet that is sub 350gr so you get velocity in the 900-1000fps range.

If you have the last HP version it shouldn't have any trouble send 400g of heavy lead pretty far 500y + but in reality that is a expensive caliber to plink..is more of a hunting round unless you find a free lead supply..I sold mine because with a 400g round I could shoot 3 rounds of 130g of 308 or 4 rounds of 100g -.257 ...more shooting for your dollars and that is only in lead savings aside of the amount of air you will need to shoot a few hours...I really like the kick of the caliber..but it was something not to usable for me..
