Yet another classic SSP match rifle just entered my collection; an Anschütz Super Air 2002 SSP. Unbelievably accurate and extremely well built, as one might expect from a premium brand such as Anschütz. I own multiple 10-meter match rifles, like the Walther LG210, Hämmerli AR-50, and Feinwerkbau 300S, but this baby is without a doubt the bees knees! The trigger is amazing on this thing, and they used high grade aluminium for most of the parts, making it less susceptible to rust. That’s probably one of the reasons why it looks as good as it does, despite it’s age. To compensate for the light weight aluminium, the muzzle has multiple barrel weights that can be adjusted to your personal needs.
Oh, and when I say ‘accurate’, I mean ACCURATE! This is a (actually the first) 40-shot group I shot yesterday with this rifle on the range, and anything that didn’t hit the 10, was my mistake. It shoots better than all the other match rifles I own, and as far as I’m concerned, I’ll be shooting this rifle during the Dutch Championships 10-meter Air Rifle in September this year.
I just need to adjust my diopter two clicks to the left, and I’m dead on target. A spread of 7,5mm with a 4.5mm pellet is not bad at all, and that one 9 on the right was the reason the group size was this “big”, otherwise it would have been 5,4mm! Seems like the barrel is in top condition.
The reason I bought this rifle, is primarily because I use air rifles as training for my small bore rimfire rifle (12 and 50 meters), and this Anschütz Super Air 2002 has the exact same stock as my Anschütz 54 Match rifle. That makes training a whole lot easier. But then there’s that constant need to add more vintage stuff to my collection. 😉
These rifles are pretty hard to come by, so I had to have it. No regrets so far. 🙂

nah i would have slammed my wallet down toApril 30, 2017 at 1:04 pm LinkHo-lee-crap! Cleaned the rifle, did some more shooting this Saturday, and guess what… 398 out of 400 points. And no, not from a bipod with a scope, just some serious prone off-hand shooting with diopter sights. I think I struck gold with this baby. Bought a second one I found in Germany for spare parts today, and some extra seals. This one’s a keeper! 😛 😀
Just look at the size of all those shots. 5.8mm edge-to-edge. Considering the pellet size is just 1.1mm smaller than that, I can absolutely say it’s accurate as hell.

@wadcutter; I’m using the RWS R10 Match pellets. I selected a batch after testing (different head sizes and lot numbers) with another match rifle of mine at the gun store. But it seems the Annie likes these too.

Guess what, that competition was helt from the 15th of September and ended the 24th (yesterday), and I won the Male Prone series with this oldtimer. I had to compete against all kinds of modern, expensive and high-tech PCP’s. And there’s the proof that you can still compete at the highest levels with these oldtimers! 😀

ETA- Thanks for the specs.

ETA- Thanks for the specs.September 26, 2017 at 8:38 am Link@wadcutter; well, I’ve owned some other rifles that weren’t that accurate. Cheap garbage actually. So not everything in my hands is golden. But this beaut will not leave the collection, if only for it’s sentimental value now. 😉
@cobalt327; It’s a 10-meter Olympic match rifle, that means 7,5 joules (5.5 f/lbs) at a muzzle velocity of 165 meters per second (or 514 ft/s). The extreme spread is practically zero with this thing.
