Another reason to love your Taipan

About four years ago I found a good deal on a Veteran.22 shorty on EBay. Yeah, I know, I couldn’t believe it either.

The gun arrived and it was perfect, not a mark on it anywhere, I was stoked. I filled it up and loaded a mag and stepped outside, I didn’t even have a scope on it, I just wanted to shoot it, I’ve always heard that they were one of the quietest bull pups on the market.

Well, much to my surprise it was way loud. The previous owner had gutted the shroud for some reason.

I contacted the guy and he swore he received it that way, I kinda doubt that. He offered to send me an LDC adapter for it so I agreed. I put a Donny Tatsu on it and it was very effective, Donny’s stuff is top notch and I highly recommend his products.

I finally decided I wanted the gun whole so I contacted the retailers here in the States to see if I could get the baffles and spacers for it but they seemed like they weren’t interested in trying to help me out.

Back then Taipan had no website so I was stuck. Well, they moved to the Chech and suddenly they had a website with contact info.

I sent them an email asking if I could buy the internals directly from them. I received an email the next day from David Hanusek, the sales manager of Taipan, telling me he was going to add it to the order that was going out out to Utah Airguns in about a month.

A month later, I received another email with a pic of a whole shroud with my name on it. He told me to check with Utah Airguns in about six weeks.

I called them the other day and was told that it was in the store and they would send it out to me. Guys, all I had to pay was the shipping from UA. It cost me $8.39 for a whole new shroud.

keep in mind, I wasn’t asked if I was the original owner, actually David didn’t ask me anything, he just sent me a new one.

I just wanted all of you to know about the outstanding customer service I received from Taipan and David Hanusek. Thank you so much David. Service like that is rare these days.

Based on my experience with 2 Veterans, I would not worry about limited stateside support. You won't need it. I can't imagine any likely need to replace any hard parts. And O rings are readily available. As with most European rifles, a worst case scenario could result in an extended repair or replacement time. But, I've yet to have that occur.

While I don't have the experience inside the gun that others have, I agree. Short of spring/oring maintenance, I can't see anything failing as long as the gun isn't abused.

Great story. Thanks for posting!

Let us know how she sounds with the new shroud.

To me, it doesn’t seem that the shroud is as efficient as a Cricket one is. But, with the factory shroud and the Tatsu on it, it is stupid quiet.

There are some places I wanted to squirrel hunt, and without the Tatsu it fits in a backpack real nice, it’s quiet enough to hunt with so I’m glad I was able to get the parts.
