Another new .25 cal. slug worth testing. Nielsen Specialty Ammo (NSA) 34.9gr.

When the first slug liners came out for the FX air guns, there was absolutely no slug data out there at all for the .25. It all revolved on the earlier released .22. Over the course of the last 3 years, I’ve tested about every .25 slug available for sale and many more that were never released for sale. I tested in various slug liners in various lengths until I finally just got burnt out from adjusting my gun over and over and over every day. I was sharing most of that information but it just got to be too much. I finally kind of took a break from testing slugs a while back unless something intriguing came out to test...The FX Hybrids, the JSB KO’s, and a few others.

So a while back, Centercut told me about how well the NSA 43.5gr shoot out of the Slug A liner, which is what I have in my gun. I like that the Slug A liner shoots both the King Heavies and slugs in the 29gr.-34gr. range so well. So, after Centercut told me about the 43.5gr shooting well, I called Nick and bought some of the 43.5gr, the new 38.9gr and the new 34.9gr.

Most all of the NSA slugs I’ve tested I have been able to get to shoot pretty well, of course some better than others. In almost every case, the flat base seem to shoot better than the cup or dish base. Well, the reason I’m writing this post is to tell you all about the 34.9gr. dish base slug. I got this thing shooting great, really great. I was lucky in that it didn’t take much messing around at all. Of course every gun is different and results will vary depending on you gun, barrel, settings, etc. I wanted to share with you though because I have been shooting some phenomenal groups with these slugs. I’d say they’re shooting in the top 5-10% of all the slugs I’ve tested...AVS, Griffin, AONCO, Rat Sniper, VK, NSA, H&N, JSB, FX, Etc. They are consistent, every time I shoot them, the groups are small, over and over again with no fliers which are so common with slugs.

My Impact has a 700mm Slug A liner and power mods. I’m shooting them with my regulator on 130bar, the HS preload just about maxed out, the power wheel on maximum and the valve adjuster adjusted so that the hammer seat just touches, dropping my velocity about 5-7fps from the maximum I was getting. I am shooting them at a velocity of 944fps and have been averaging a ES of 4 fps! At 50yds, I’m shooting 5 shoot groups over and over again that are under 5/8”. At 100yds, I am consistently shooting 5 shot groups between 1”-1 3/8” I’ve shot lots of small groups before but these seem to be so much more consistent than usual with the lack of fliers. I don’t know what it is, but these slugs just shoot really well.

If you shoot a Slug A liner and like to mess with slugs, you should definitely give these a try. As with everything slug related, results will vary but definitely worth a shot.

I almost forgot. I shared a picture of a teeny, ten shot group that I shot with my Instagram friends. MoistOne, who is also a member here, told me that he also uses the Slug A liner and has also had phenomenal results with these slugs. The funny part...His best accuracy was at the exact same velocity of 944fps.

Have a good one! Stoti

Thanks for the write up Stoti, looking forward to see what my 600mm superior heavy liner will like. The normal 500mm superior liner is throwing the 26.8 grain NSA slugs at 940 in a really tight group at 50 yards though my ES was 30 FPS over 9 shots, might have to do some adjusting somewhere else, valve maybe. I’ll pick some of these 34.9 grain once FX gets me my parts to complete the build of my superior heavy. I would agree with you that the info on 25 cal slugs is bare, hopefully I can contribute this spring once some weather allows for testing.

Stoti I started writing a response last night basically agreeing with you about the 34.9’s then thought what better way to show it than with a group.

I know I’m not well known around these parts but here’s how this went. Took the gun out set it on the bench and started shooting. The group below was 14 shots. I didn’t take any warm up shots before. This was the first 14 shots to leave the barrel. I shot this group just to show the capabilities of this ammo. The gun was tuned for this ammo (by me) prior but it’s still impressive.

65 yards. group would’ve been better had I taken my time. This was point and shoot, repeat.

I have very good luck with the 34.9 slugs at various speeds, and right now I’m shooting them on min power @875-880rps with great consistent results with a lot of shots per fill. The regulator is 110bar and on max it gets 920-930 in very cold temperatures, in the past I have noticed a drop in speeds with cold temperatures. The temperatures should be in the 50 degrees range and I expect the velocity to increase and I’m content with anything around the 900fps. At this setup I get more shots and less recoil but that’s just the way I prefer and the results are great. Good luck to all
