And ideas?

I use the box of rubber mulch as a target holder. Now that I've found a really easy way to extract all the pellets out of the mulch, I have a LOT of lead.

Anyone have an good ideas of what I could use this stuff for? What could I make? I have considered getting a little melting pot at Bass Pro and making some worm weights for fishing. But I'd like to hear some other ideas from you folks since we have some very creative minds here.

Crusher Have poured lead fishing weights for years, theres do's & dont's when doing this, if you care for some advice feel free to ask me .I 'm not sure of your occupation so I won't go into details at this time. I have poured small ingots for the wife to put in the bottom of her curtin ends to hold them straight- the ones for patio doors - Costco sells the roll down awnings for patio's, then I make 8 to 10 oz. cannon balls to attach at each end with a shower curtain hook, this added weight keeps them from blowing around. Also larger ingots for door stops ,sprayed with plastic wrap , this stuff is easy to remove if you want to use the lead for something else down the road. Also have made some nice fishing clubs , just drill out the end of a wood dowel pour in the lead. just some ideas, but go with the large lee smelting pot you won't regret it. You might want to save that lead to cast your own bullets easily done with the pot . Darell

I am a bullet caster so old lead does not go to waste here. .30 cal up to 45/70 bullets. Also fishing weights, but don't need as many of them. Before all of this we used pellets like split shot to fish with. Cut them with a penknife and squeeze back together on your fishing line. Oh yea, that was back when kids were actually allowed to have tools. Yes you do need to be careful if you cast lead. You need lots of ventilation.
Casting is messy and lots of work but it does save me money and I do enjoy it.

Crusher I shoot into the box/rubber mulch affair as well. Please do explain your "easy" way separate the pellets. I have 3 big boxes of the stuff that I've been shooting into since last fall and they each weigh a LOT more than they did in Sept. Also is there an easy way to extract pellets from duct sealant or is that even necessary? Uj

Wow, thanks for all the good info guys.

The easy way to get the lead is to use a 5 gallon bucket. Fill it about 1/2 way up with water. Then just pour the mulch into the bucket on top of the water. Just stir around with your hand or a stick if it is cold where you are.
The lead will settle to the bottom. You just scoop out the mulch and throw it back in the box. You will be left with all the lead int he bottom :)

That's a better idea then mine, gonna try it. I was using a tray made from 1/4" hardware cloth. Pour in and shake the pellets (and small mulch pieces) fall thru put the left over in box to re-use.
