An Oldy but goodie Squirrel Hunting Tip

So you do not see these around much anymore but they do work when it comes to getting those little buggers back out of the hole and settled back down.

It is called a Cutting Call and is very easy to make

Go to your local hardware store and get you a Nylon Bolt or All Thread then grab you a couple of guitar pics an old credit card works well too. If you listen to a Squirrel chewing on a nut you can easily duplicate the sound

Take your shot, then sit down and start popping the card or pic across the thread make it sound like grinding teeth click click pop ... click click pop

It will not be long before they will settle back down and stick their little heads back up to see who is chowing down

Bought a Ha-Yardel-Feets SW-92 Mr Squirrel Whistle. I was very skeptical, but not any more. This call is a game changer for squirrels in PA. Almost makes me feel guilty.

Those things should be illegal. Just kidding. I was using them a lot a few years ago, but got tired of shooting squirrels 10 ft away. A couple times I almost turned to run. Nothing like having a protective momma fox squirrel chasing you. Most of the squirrels I took with those whistles , stress calls or whatever they are, was female fox squirrels. I also found them less effective as season went on.

I never sit still long enough to know if that works. I am lucky if I can stop 10 minutes. Back in the day, a bunch of guys and myself would go squirrel hunting a couple days a year. Everyone but me was stand hunters. I keep moving very slow, stopping every so often, never sitting. We would meet back at the truck when we limited out. Not bragging, but I can't remember a time that anyone of them beat me back to the rendezvous with their limit. Oh well, old times are great. Happy Hunting.
