AMP REG. RENEWED THOUGHTS?

Hi,

Most regulators that use three chambers and spring rate rely on the pressure differential between hi, low, atmosphere and a tuned spring to be consistent.

Once the correct spring rate for a given high/low config is found then we need to ensure good sealing surfaces to ensure against creep.

These regs have a range of operation for a given spring rate, going under or over this point can result in strange performance at very high or very low settings.

I have both the AMP and HUMA, both have very big advantages over the other, both can work if installed well and both can display changing set point with changes in high pressure, leaking, creeping!

The HUMA offers different spring rates for high or low pressure usage and a metallic piston, the AMP is easier to service and adjust in the gun.

So I am sorry for not really answering your question with a Yes/No response but I can offer that my current 700 PP set up is 104bar driving 18.1 JSB or .218 21 H&N slugs at around 960 FPS ( power wheel 4 or max) and the AMP reg has been golden while the HUMA would change set point as bottle pressure decreases. I could have ordered the low pressure spring stack from Huma, or resurface the seal of the plastic piston on the AMP.

My main question was can you adjust the amp reg DOWN under pressure as FX says you can....I'm starting to see people say despite what FX says....it WILL damage the reg.

Has anyone seen this?

I mentioned creep because once the delrin piston is damaged it will creep. The older gen 1 regulator would do this if you turned it down under pressure. You had to bleed the system in order to adjust down.

I adjust in down on my gun, max 1/4 turn. I take 2-3 dryfire shots between every turn. But It is probably more like 1/8 turn each time, as I stop when there seems to be more resistance. So far my reg seems to work just fine. If you are planing to adjust down allot (20-30bar), it is probably more convenient to do it the "old" way, and take the bottle off, and empty the plenum first, and then adjust lower than needed. Otherwise it takes a while, and allot of dryfire shots. If being in doubt you actually has the AMP reg or not, I would do it the old way, just in case. As far as I know the AMP reg came with the impact x. If I had a older generation impact I would not do it.

What you call creep, will also happen if you bring the gun in from colder temperature, to room temperature. I would not bother with changing the reg, as the huma will probably behave just the same.
