American Air Arms .308 Slayer on the bench

Finally having some nice weather here in MI and I’ve been dying to get out and shoot! Getting to know this AAA .308 cal Slayer and loving it. It’s a lightweight rifle with a LOT of power as you’d imagine. It’s challenging to shoot accurately, similar to mastering a springer (but not as difficult!)

Been shooting it at 50 yards with good results despite very inconsistent technique on my part. The variables are never ending, but I’m zeroing in my grip, bipod placement, etc. I can tell it’ll easily be a 1/2” 50 yard shooter when I get myself dialed into it.

Shooting NSA 99 grain hollow points at 950 fps for 198 ft lbs energy. I can NOT wait to stretch it out on the 100 & 150 yard range. Mostly though, I’m looking forward to hunting with it, including whitetail deer in FL this fall for the new airgun deer season!

It pummels rimfire silhouettes at 50 yards. I posted a 1 minute sideshot scopecam video to my Instagram (@airgunner.usa) yesterday.

Well enough talking about it, here’s a couple of pics!

"rjos3ph"Very nice! I placed an order for the evol tac. In .30 cal in October, I'm still waiting. Enjoy.
Have you called them recently? They had to relocate the shop and all of their equipment. As of about a month ago they’re up and running. Looks like they’ll be delivering rifles very soon. I feel your pain! Well, maybe not quite as much now ?. Hang in there, it’s worth it.

"blackdiesel"Have you seen some of SoCal Extreme Airgunner video of him hunting with the 357 cal Slayer? In his last video he has some kills at over 200 yards.
I have. Amazing shooting and that .357 Slayer just destroys them! I’m on the list for a .457 Slayer. Rumor is, it’ll have internal upgrades to outperform the .457 Slayer that won at EBR last year. The best part is the technology will trickle down to the .357 and .308’s.

I’m having fun with the .308. Can’t keep my hands off of it! My motive is to be one of the first to (legally) take whitetail deer in FL with a .30 cal airgun. Will also bring along a .30 RAW for a more “minimalist” approach, haha

Will be “Slaying” canned food, paper and silhouettes in the meantime ?

"Terryb00"Hey Brian.in.Mi,
I recently got a .308 Slayer too.
Also noticed it shoots very differently than my pellet guns.
Tom told me to move my front shooting bag back, closer to me, when bench shooting. That's contrary to the stability of keeping the front bag forward, but I'm gonna try it next time I'm out.
Hi Terry,
What bullet are you shooting? The Nielsen 99 H.P. are supposed to be the best all around, but I guess there’s a new version with a smaller hollow cavity.

I can tell it’s a tack driver (despite my inconsistency) “Recoil management” is key, as Tom says. There’s a learning curve, managing the shot cycle consistently.

I’m hardly in a position to offer advice on the gun yet, other than keep shooting it! Haha. Fill pressure 3550ish, 99gn NSA, 950ish velocity and experimentation with rests, grip. Have fun, I certainly am!

Hey Brian,
Yes, I'm shooting Nicks 99gn hps.
Yes, there's a learning curve. Mine was shooting 5 shots at 900 fps. Tom also told me what screw to turn to get it up to 950s.
Im thinking I may have "over-bought" with this cannon.
Gonna spend some time soon with this beast (got the last wk of May off), and gonna give it some more time on the hold.
Worse case, I'll flip it, if I can't get it to group.
No hurry to go there,
since I waited 6 and a half months for delivery.

"Rich7777"That is wicked looking. The product page says 7.2 lbs. Is it really that light?
Hey Rich,
My Slayer .308 weighed in at 7# 10 1/2 oz bare.
Just under 9 and 1/2# scoped.
They're just numbers, the weight is mostly mid and back (really light front end), it feels nicely balanced and light when shouldered.

Thanks Terry
