Am I the only one who is sick of bullpups?!!!

Fair enough. This wasn't really meant to be a bullpup vs rifle debate. I was just venting my frustration regarding the over abundance of bullpups dominating the forums and news.
How ver, watching everyone debate which style is better has certainly been entertaining.

I'll say this about this thread, it is very respectful! On one of my archery forums if someone wrote that they hate Longbows they would have been badly treated.

Yeah Bow, it just goes to show the spirit of this forum as whole. We're pretty sure ghostmaker means no harm and it's fun to see everyone's difference of opinion on the pups. Really been an enjoyable post for me, because at one time I might have felt like the Ghost? It's been kind of like going over to the Dark side from springers to PCP for me, with now going to the Pups from conventional rifles. But I won't be giving up the conventional PCP rifles like I did the springers ;-)

This is a great thread. No body has taken it the wrong way. Just a place to voice what we like about these little pups. If everyone liked the same thing there would only be one rifle to shoot. Everyone I have now is a keeper. I like them all. I just didn't think I would ever like an ugly little bullpup. Don't stop know. Keep the reasons coming.

Lots of strong, healthy opinions here which is a good thing. I'm definitely from an older school generation and nothing gets my juices flowing like the elegant, classic lines of a beautifully crafted sportster. Well, there is that pretty little thing working her garden down the street, but that’s another show. That said, I like to think I am open-minded and for this aging gent and it’s bullpups all the way now. It’a all about function over form with less weight these days and I have never looked back.
But what really surprises me is there seems to be so little blowback about these multicolored or singularly, but oddly hued laminated stocks from us older farts out there! My God I find those off-putting! Not unlike folks that cover themselves in tatoos. God bless them as it’s a respected personal choice everyone is entitled to, but a beautiful engineered gun sporting a rainbow stock just leaves me with the heebie-jeebies. **Smirk**

I don't think the dividing line is old vs young when it comes to bullpups. Plenty of young shooters like traditional rifles and plenty of older shooters enjoy bullpups.
I happen to like both. I believe that a proper collection should include both a nice traditional rifle and a bullpup as a minimum so you can choose the right tool for the occasion.
There are enough options and styles of both for there to be something for every taste as long as there is an open mind.
Either way, it is always better to try something and give it a proper chance before forming strong negative opinions.

I also feel that those having multiple airguns can easily find needs for long guns, carbines, and bullpups. I currently don't have a pup and my only real negative towards them and the reason I don't have one in my collection is head position. I don't like having my ear right at the breech. I had a breech seal blow while shooting and didn't really like my ear ringing for a long while after. I already have tinnitus as a result of a head injury and now take my earing safety rather serious. I had this happen on 2 different pups and not sure if I will buy another.

Count me as one who will never own, or even shoot a Bullpup design. Doesn't matter if a Bullpup shoots well, has nice wood, or anything else. I just couldn't bring myself to enjoy shooting something that is so damn ugly to look at! Kinda like cars, we all have designs we love, and those we just can't stand.

I envy those who are exactly sure of what they like an don't. I remember in 1974 when compound bows were coming out. I thought, who in their right mind would lay down the recurve to shoot that thing? Well, in 1975, after seeing how accurate I could be, I shot them for 34 years. I returned (mostly) to recurves in 2010.
I'm hoping by this time next year I've decided what air rifle design, and even model I like best for what I do. If that happens I'll go fro 5 to 2 or 3 instead of 7 or 8! I did that with custom recurve bows. I bought more than 30 over a few year span and am now whittling down. I'm at just 7 now. But it cost a lot of money finding out. Never tried to make money on a single resale although I did make some on my last sell. Guy offered and I said okey dokey!

Like I said earlier, I'm sure they're just fine & if you like'em, cool. But I Like the classic sporter lines, more like fine furniture than strictly utilitarian. Bullpups, to me, look like a regular rifle went through a broken transporter & came out looking like they do. Sorta like those two Star Trek officers in one of the movies(1st one?) that came through looking like a hissing freaks worst nightmare. But that's me. I'm sure someday I may get to try one, but idk?...

I have exactly zero bullpups in my collection and will probably keep it that way. Wasn't very impressed with the handling of my first one and would have to actually hold / shoot one (and it would need to be a laser) before I'd buy another..

Just because a bullpup's breach reaches all the way back to the butt doesn't necessarily mean the design can't incorporate the esthetic features that the so-called old school folks like so much. I guess after I get the venture capital and work out the logistics of building a manufacturing plant, hiring a marketing staff, and establishing a shipping operation; I can design my airguns anyway I want.

but those now entering the pup game i think are a little late. and those trying to get out of the pup game are having a hard time doing so and making a innovative classic design we havent seen or that has new features/functions we arent totally accustomed too.
pups were THE SHIZZ about 2 years ago, now the fads over and people want regular rifles again
but theres only so much you can put inside a standard rifle stock without compromise and complication. a pup is so much easier to hide internal workings and flaws alike inside of and still have room for things like mag holders and integrated acc rails.
yes i have a pup, and i do love it. but i wont buy another one, in fact i have been eyeing a .30 cal fx boss at a local pawn shop. the guy has absolutely no idea what he has and wants 500 bucks for it

Speak for yourself. I still want bullpups. For discrete shooting at home, not having three extra feet of air gun poking out the window is super helpful.
Even when I see a long gun I like, all I can think is "would I ever really pick that up over a bullpup".
I'm curious what long guns people think are so good looking that they could never try anything else? Most air rifles look a little ugly to me unless you buy a custom stock. Daystate maintains somewhat classic lines and uses nice wood but most others don't.
I tend to choose performance, comfort and function over looks but I can't say I find bullpups any less attractive than regular rifles. They look the same but with the stock in a different position. That's because they are the same. E.g. The cricket rifle and bullpup is the same action.

I gotta say that I hate em because they are not pretty! You know it's beautiful when it feels smooth and silky against your skin, you shiver when touching it, the finish draws you into itself. Then you hold on and become one. French walnut, fine lines, fit and finish flawless. Pay attention and quit daydreaming of the wrong thing!
