For sure anything can be called a weapon, like a good "running back" or a"pencil or "words",them are "fighting words".

My thoughts are anything "ammo" for those not knowing what is what can cause a negative "reaction".

I was thinking of the big picture.......so I must be guilty of being over sensitive....

I guess I see a difference in sporting events and war....but it is a war out there, the squirrels are taking over,Bessie grab my gun...

I will stick to being a lover,LOL....YES CRAZY ME.

The Alphabet org definition of "firearms" excludes air guns. "Weapons", I think, is not a defined term, merely used in the firearm definition. I believe some states have affirmatively included air guns under certain regulations. With the current growth of the HP segment of our sport, I expect it will be only a very few years until air guns are brought under the federal firearms regulatory umbrella, and the days of freely buying and shipping air guns will be over.

The growth of the HP part of this sport is a very small one as many get into PCPs for their low power. As for being classified as firearms and regulated? That's already the case depending on where you live. But to answer the OP I don't consider my PCPs weapons for offense or defense. Too many other better substitutes... No. 2 Pencils for example...🙄

If you flip it araound and say the word "weapon" to someone, an air gun wouldn't even register on the list on things people think of. Think of the response you'd get on Family Feud. Name a weapon... Air Gun!

Additionally, air guns would rarely if ever be used in any sort of serious offensive or defensive manner. I am sure more people are killed with items commonly found in offices, schools, and churches than air guns. So, I would say that they really shouldn't be referred to as weapons.

"And no, an air gun would be a few steps below a baseball bat on my list."

Why? You could shoot and then bat if required.

First to me, as with all guns I see them as a tool. However, I know airguns like firearms, knives, etc, even a hammer, spoon, knitting needles can be used as a weapon. Generically speaking, a weapon can be used offensively / defensively to preserve or dispatch life. https://www.yourdictionary.com/weapon

Agree.

The Illinois definition of firearm, ".177 over 700fps, 22 +.." no "silencers". aren't they just precious in their concern for public safety? To be honest , I've shot with several cops from state to local. All my guns are "moderated or air stripped" They never say a thing and thoroughly enjoy all my guns

I assure you, downstate is NOTHING like the eden of Chicago!.

When I buy a new gun, I. Buy from the companies that ship directly to me. Some will not ship except through FFL dealers. This includes 22+ pellets!

It's not John Q Public It's Jane Q Public. She tried to ban toy guns from being made let alone sling shots, BB guns et all. You can see what her Idea of a weapon is. No sticks either. Careful who you breathe on and never ever scatter your spittle as you speak. I wonder when looking will be judged as a weapon . I know some municipalities and corporations have decided that looking at a woman longer then 5 seconds constitutes sexual harassment. Worked as an electrician over 40 years and ran into this over 10 years ago when we were required to sign a statement that we understood this "policy" of a corporation whose's bldg we were to work in remodeling.. I'm looking for a remote ranching community to lease some land, no sense in buying at 72. I want to be able to pickup and leave any time. All this stuff like family values( depends on each individual exactly what family values are). It's a shame you can't express an opinion or practice your freedoms among certain people.

Another Illinois resident here and retired after 29 years in law enforcement. When I decided to get into this hobby I had quite the time finding a dealer that would ship directly to me.
