So I must be getting old, I purchased my first PCP about three months ago and started watching videos. I keep hearing the guys refer to grub screws. The word comes from the UK.
possibly from its resemblance to a ground dwelling grub. Im guessing because there are a lot of air gunners in the UK the word made it over here. I never heard set screw refered to as a grub screw till i started air gunning

Exactly. The only reason I knew the terms were interchangeable was because I’ve built engines on some British cars. To be fair- usually the screw is referred to as “grub” when it holds something in place with an index, as in, not all Allen/hex screws are grub screws... but that is only in the world I’ve lived in. Some people call all hex screws grub screws.

Call em grub screws in Australia. But we do speak English here,like they do in England.
And they don't necessarily need to be Hex or Allen head.But it is easier to work with.

Those are set screws. A grub is the larval stage of a June bug! If it has a head, it is an Allen head bolt.

Interesting - is it a screw or a bolt? In order to be a bolt, does it have to have a nut? If no nut, is it a screw? Never thought about that - don’t think I will ever think about it again! Ha!
