Alkin Compressor, Any Issues

This compressor is a beast, compared to the others. Just hums right along. Highly recommend it. Right now I have 3 FX Impacts, so why not have this compressor. Even just one and it would be worth it. Now a $1000 and less gun and I realize these units are a bit pricey.

From the lack of replies, they seem to be solid units!

They are very good and reliable compressors.

If you look them up on dive forums, there are a few issues and areas of failure they experience with them (cam shaft cracking and water separator issues). Of course their usage levels/run times far exceed ours and those sorts of problems only show themselves after 100's of hours of use and are unlikely to ever occur with airgun level usage. Other brands have other 'typical' potential problems so I guess it's a pick your poison type scenario.

I had a bauer utilus 10 that has been running strong for 37 years with light to moderate use. I eventually traded it in last year after the high pressure head started to wear (slow fills) as Bauer is stopping making the few specific parts it uses vs the newer Junior. Got a Paramina Mistral which is a Greek dive compressor also with low rpm design, 100lpm and rated to fill to 350bar. Very happy with it, especially given how low the noise level is vs the Bauer. Haven't seen anything on them on this forum but I'm not sure they're available in the US.

@blackdiesel Same for me. Idiot driver got it off the lift gate with a pallet then proceeded let it tip over on its side, a fitting on top of the cylinder poked a hole in the fiberglass shroud. Pissed me off, but the compressor runs fine. The guy at Alkin offered to send a replacement shroud but I kinda got used to the hole being there.

I had two holes in the box that corresponded with the top valve on the separator and the relief valve. The WS valve was completely snapped and I had to use an extractor to get the broken bolt out. The relief valve is bent at a downward angle. I replaced the WS valve and put 5 layers of Teflon tape on the relief valve.

I bought an Alkin 31 last July and love it so far. The Bauer Junior and the Alkin 31 use the same type oiling system for the lower end, it is completely adequate for individual use and light commercial use. When your filling tanks as a business then move up to the next model Alkin or Bauer which have a more robust lower end and oiling system. For individual Airgun use either of the above compressors should last you a lifetime with good maintenance. Wish I had bought one before I wasted my money on a cheap compressor sold for Airguns and a booster both of which didn’t last 2 years with light use.

No long term experience at all.

My closest dive shop is an hour away and charges quite a bit for fills. Now add the current cost of gas and each fill is about $45. The compressor made more sense to me, so I ordered it.

It's a lot of cash but mine arrived in perfect shape, I got the vertical, electric with auto stop and like that it's on the handy wheeled chassis. It's easy to move around and tuck against a wall when not in use.

It runs nice and smoothly and considering it's a compressor, quietly too.

I'm glad I got the auto stop, as it's nice to set it up, start it and be able to stand well clear of it while it does its thing.

Now I just a few spare Scott bottles and regulators for air tools and I'll have spare air for tools and filling tires now that I have the compressor.

A lot of us tried to use boosters and compressors that were never designed to fill bottles and learned the hard way that it takes a dive quality compressor to do that. I have an Alkin W31 upright and have been very happy with it so far. The W31 series should last a lifetime for the average Airgun shooter with proper maintenance. For a commercial application I would move up to the W32 series which has a more robust lower end and oiling system. If you want trouble free operation you have to pick the right tool for the job. I know a lot of us are on a limited budget but this is one piece of equipment that it doesn’t pay to scrimp on.

After talking with Bigragu I took his advice and bought a Alkin W31 upright. I’ve had it for a year now with no problems at all.

I just completed the maintenance and it was quite easy. You just replace or repack the air cleaning filter and change the oil. My compressor has 47 hours on it, and no problems whatsoever.
They are definitely a very well made compressor and the best part is that there’s great service and Aydin is very helpful and returned my calls promptly. I shoot down to about 3200 or so and then top off the bottle to 4500.

I haven’t actually timed it, but it only takes about 7 or 8 minutes to top off the bottle. And in that time the compressor doesn’t get very hot at all. I’m very satisfied with it and now I’m never out of air more than a few minutes!

Edit: Ha ha, I forgot I already said this in the earlier post about Alkin compressor 😑
