Airguns at Sprigville UT

Note: I thought I had posted this this morning, but didn't. it covers events of yesterday.

The main match at the Challenge I the 75/100 yard benchrest, but yesterday there were 16 side matches that are drawn from practical shooting. While very popular in UT, these matches are from outer space for many airgunners. all aha 60 second par times and as you moved from match to match you would do well on one and then suck on the next one.

The most positive benefit is that the shooters in your group get to know each other. So for the first day it is like a team building exercise.

The ranges are laid out along Hobble Creek and it is about 1/4 mile from one end to the other. So there is a lot of walking and not too much time to do it. That and the forced positions were less then friendly to my 72 year old body. I am rather stiff this morning. Aside from that This match is as much fun as I have ever had at a shooting tournament.

These matches are half man on man where, the loser gets no points, and precision where each shooter you can earn points for your total score. The most interesting was called, ”Know Your Limits” where you shoot successively smaller targets. If you miss you lose your points and have to start over. You can stop at ay time and keep what points you have earned p to then. I chose to do this when the win came up. However, the smallest target is a 1/4 inch swinger which I hit at 25 yards. That madeup for a lot of targets I missed.I like Irons hit that 1/4 inch swinger TWICE with an iron sighted Armada Once at 15 and once at 40 yards. The whole squad cheered.

75 yard and big bore today.

Eventually, there will be a number of photos posted by others, along with videos. The match just ended yesterday. I dropped Blue Flax off somewhat after midnight, and got home myself at just before 01:00 this morning. All of us who were there are going to have to take some time to decompress, edit our photos, videos and reports, and compose our thoughts.

Airtanks for Sale, and Hawke Optics had a table set-up where you could see some of their stuff, and buy some items right there. But, there was no "vendor's row" like the tradition at Camp Perry, OH during the National Matches. However, being that this event's host was a local airgun vendor itself (as is AoA's EBR) one really should not expect too much in the way of outside sellers.

The event sponsors, however, did a nice job of donating items for the raffle, and were well recognized by all.

There were 16 side matches all shot of the first day of the Challenge. They were drawn form local shoot in Utah, but were from outer space for most airgunners.

They were in two categories. "Speed" where you shot against anouther shooter, first one done takes all the points, and "Precision" where each shooter had to make as may hits as they could. They all had 60 second par times so the pucker factor was high. We quickly moved from match to match, You could do we.. on one and then suck on the next. fun dampened the pain of defeat, ad buoyed you up when victory came.

One was called the "Evolution of the Stance" where you shot two rounds in prone at 50 yards, one round in sitting at 40 yards, one round in kneeling at 30 yards, and two in standing at 20 yards. This was done twice. Once in speed and once in precision. I like Irons and I plan to try this out when we get back to Pocatello.
