Airgun royal thunder - pretender? or the real deal-now available

this gun is coming to utah airguns in about 4-5 weeks. but tony at talon tunes has a couple available now in 22 cal, all i know about it is from "man's world" video on youtube. as far as i can see it boasts

1 - side lever cocking

2 - 12-14 shot mag depending on 22 or 25 cal. i did not notice 177 cal applications, sorry

3 - slide safety above trigger , dual sided

4 - a chambered round button that sticks out back when loaded.

5 - appears to have basic beech stock

6 - top pic rail appears level , not 20 MOA , but i can't swear to it.

7 - not sure if power adjustable , but advertised at about 870 with JSB 25.3g pellets, about 42 FPE. this is short of the taipan , but i am going off other's information. i will wait for utah airguns tests for better results.

result, i was hoping for a side lever version of the taipan. this sounds short of it , but will be keeping an eye on it next month.

anyone else hear or see anything on this gun ?

“At the top of rifle we can find a classic 22mm weaver rail for mounting optic system. Compared to previous models, it is inclined by 20MOA. Rail is made from one piece and therefore it is in the same axis with barrel. Taipan is already equipped with a great internal silencer, which will provide sufficient absorption while shooting. Large-volume air tank of 292 cc is located under barrel. It passes through almost the whole rifle and ends with a Wika manometer. Current pressure is marked in BARs unit.”

Says that it does have a 20 MOA rail. It looks quite different than a Veteran. I’m interested to know more. Surely the power is adjustable but that needs to be confirmed.

I like the stippling on the grip. Wish the Vets had it. Seems like a small detail, but when I go from the Vet to the Cricket it's really noticeable.

I'm wondering about the ergos. The forearm is pretty thin and the grip looks long in comparison. The rear of the stock is pretty interesting, too. I wonder how it feels and shoulders compared to a Vet. It looks like it could seem lighter and more agile. Or a little awkward. The latter wouldn't be a logical evolution , though.

I did the OP after drinking - never a good idea! But , I did look up the website and reread the description on this gun. It does HAVE a 20 MOA pic rail as another poster mentioned.

when i scrolled the owners manual [ in czech] it listed energy as 7,5 J ? it can't be 7 1/2 j because that's about 5 1/2 FPE . i'm thinking it is 75 J or about 55 FPE , which would be in line with Taipan history. 25 cal of course . lower for 22 cal.

these few key things now have me quite curious to see this gun when it becomes available.

That doesn’t sound to bad but there is that “vat” tax thing again. What exactly is that? I was going to order something from overseas and price wasn’t bad but they said not to forget the “vat” but they wouldn’t explain what it was

a VAT tax is short for " value added tax" which is a tax put on luxury classed items. i am not sure how much is added if you buy from U.S. distributor.

Ok I decided to purchase the Airgun Royal Thunder in .25cal from Tony at Talontunes. Let me tell you the quality and finish is top of the line. The cocking lever takes some getting use to but it’s not bad at all. I wouldn’t say it’s as smooth as the FX Wildcat but not bad. The trigger is awesome! Maybe one of the best triggers I’ve handled. Accuracy, thus far from 30yard testing with JSB 25gr stacks pellets on top of each other. The ergonomics are right and feels good shoot off hand. Right now it only comes in the beech stock, so if you don’t like traditional wood stock this may not be the gun for you. I’m sure Airgun Royal will come out with different stock options later. This gun is a home run and needs to get more attention based on the value it offers.
