Airgun of the future will be ?

....Will be regulated by the Federal Government.

For sure will be! The more advancements on slugs, higher pressures, etc the more dangerous and we all know what that means...

I've been saying that for quite some time. What's the difference between a firearm generating 150 ft lbs or an airgun producing the same

amount of kinetic energy? NOTHING ! 150 FT LBS IS 150 FT LBS ! It's a matter of time before airgun background checks are the reality.

Interesting topic and I have some ideas, but I think.....

If the citizens of this country don't wake up REAL QUICK, like this next election, there will not be powder guns, air guns, archery or even slingshots.

I've talked with local liberals trying to connect with them and reach common ground and determined they are fanatics.... Unreachable. And they have said that "no one has any use for any such weapons that might be used to hurt someone or be cruel to animals". Mentioned that we should ban knives like Great Brittain is doing now too.

It's their way or you must be destroyed, that's all they know.

You might not want to hear about it here but the threats are growing and if not fought soon will be insurmountable.

I have no idea and if you would have told me in the '80 that there would be a PCP air gun I would have wondered what you were talking about. The industry has progressed so much in the last 20 to 30 years. I know that is a long time but not compared to the first air guns. I would think that if money was not an issue then the correct materials could be used to take our 3,000 psi guns up to 5, 6, 7 or even 10,000 psi. Seems unlikely but look at the current long range air rifles compared to the 'break barrels of the 60's and '70's. As the Virginia Slims commercial said "We've come a long way baby", but I think we are just getting started. A lot of $1,500 to $3,000 guns are sold these days along with scopes from $500 to $3,500. When the rifle producing 100 to 150 foot pounds of energy comes along there will be a market. Might be a small market but it will exist.

Who remembers that Virginia Slim commercial? Kinda dates a person I guess. If you remember the short Philip Morris guy with the usher's outfit and round flat top hat you are getting up in my age range.

A .22 rimfire, that’s where the power progression seems headed. “Hey I started shooting PCPs, and ended up with a .22 LR. Or, hey I started with a PCP and can shoot in in my yard. Evolved it into a high FPE beast, now it’s too powerful for my yard and it’s back to the range.” Big bore Airguns have been around for a long time. Other than for benchrest shooting at 50, 100 yards, anything over .22 doesn’t appeal. The energy levels are higher and you don’t have the same leeway on where you can use those calibers. But it’s all good, glad to have the choices.

_Airgun of the future will be?_ Great topic.

There will be a lot of influences on the airguns of the future. Performance, style trends, cost, but as mentioned above state by state regulation will play a major role.

It was a close call in 2008, a 5 to 4 supreme court ruling. When the second amendment is finally determined to not apply to actual citizens I believe more shooters will gravitate toward airguns. And they will be regulated. Not the HUMA type, the government type.

"I'd rather fight that switch." - Taryton. "LSMFT" - "Lucky Strike Means Fine Tobacco." Personally, I feel that high power is the down side to airguns. Of course, without PCPs the industry would not have grown the way it has. Quiet springers on the silhouette course was/is kind of gentlemanly type of thing. Yep, I'm guilty of owning PCPs too. Age is getting to many of us I know and they are easier to cock and shoot.

As kids in the 70s, my brother and I got into blow guns. We started out with lung-powered ones and ball bearings, then hooked it up to the air compressor and started really having fun. We made darts for it too - a plastic round paintbrush with a nail melted into the end. It didn't last long with 40 pounds of air behind it. The barrel was PVC conduit.

The real problem we had was the air hose between the barrel and the compressor, but that didn't stop us from shooting. It just meant we had to shoot within 25' of the compressor (which was an old 10 gallon water tank with a single piston compressor on top).

Lots of fun! Dang, we were dangerous kids!

I have watched with great despair how the multi-rotor drone fad has absolutely destroyed the Radio Control Aircraft hobby, in less than 10 years. I have 40 years of r/c flight experience, and some very few jackasses have misbehaved badly enough to get the attention of Congress and the FAA. It is never good to get Congress involved in your hobby. The 2nd amendment is a two edged blade. While Air Guns are not firearms, there is zero protection in the Constitution for our hobby.

I have about 6k invested in R/C aircraft... rotting in my garage. Let's learn from other's mistakes.

And I would say there is quite a bit of difference in the arms that can produce them. It’s one thing to shoot maybe 4-5 times and need a refill or a heavy hookup, versus say 30 rounds, mag drop button, mag in, bolt release button, all without moving the arm from your shoulder.

Airguns are safe for the most part, as long as the NRA is around. Look at all the mass shootings that have amounted to practically no new regulations. As long as no one tries that BS with an air gun, I’d say our legislators have more important business to attend to.

"no one has any use for any such weapons that might be used to hurt someone or be cruel to animals".

What will do when they hit one of the already over populated deer with their tiny smart car at speed? Oh wait, we won't have environment destroying cars, so what will they do when they are struck by a deer while riding their bicycle to the farmers market? will the government have programs to feed all the starving animals that can't feed themselves because of competition from each other?

some people don't understand the true idea of hunting and conservation.
