AirForce Guns, Information, mods and tinkering

I bought a Talon SS a few years ago. Great little gun and amazingly accurate for only a 12 in barrel. The Talon SS is stock except for a Talon Tunes moderator. Wanting a little more , I bought a Condor. WOW what a powerhouse. Too much in fact. I went to Airguns Of Texas and bought a one piece top hat with the interchangeable inserts. I used the middle sized and what a difference. I have a very accurate, powerful, mild mannered gun. I love how simple these guns are. With the AOT tophat, the shot count went way up as well.

Just fun, rugged guns.

Thanks Steve, Now that I have the power and sound tuned to where I like it, I definately want to look into a trigger mod.

What do you know about the safeties ? I have to hold the bolt against the hammer and simultaneously take the gun off of safe to get it to fire.

I didn't mention in my previous post that I installed an RL Shroud on my gun too. GREAT PIECE OF ENGINEERING. Unlike others that rely on a grub screw to hold it in place, this one uses a threaded bushing as well as multiple baffles with alignment cups. It is as quiet if not quieter than a Marauder. The service from RL and Airguns Of Texas is outstanding.

I have a "few" Condors and they all have R&L shrouds on them, if this shroud was not made I seriously doubt I would have a Condor. These shrouds are by far the nicest looking and don't stand out at all.

I also took out the anti de-cocking pin on all my guns .... a huge difference in the field, I can decock the gun, very important for me. It now has a manual safety and that is OK for my use.

Here is one of my 25Cal babies ;- )

The design of the AF safety is of course very different depending on which "generation" of Talon/Condor you own, but it sounds like you have the older, non-resettable version that, in addition to being obnoxiously heavy, frequently develops the incredibly dangerous defect of firing the gun whenever the "safety" is released!

If so, here's a simple mod' I noodled up awhile back that has worked well for a lot of folks - strictly a use-at-your-own-risk thing, of course - that in my opinion, makes the old style safety superior to the new.

For me like I mentioned, removing of the anti de-cock bar made the gun everything I want. It is a manual safety now and I can decock the gun ... great when you are getting ready to shoot and your target runs away ... just de-cock and you are back to zero, put the safety on if you wish. The only thing is when you decock hold on to the breech arm and let it down slowly., don't fire the gun with the breech open.

As a side note: If the safety seems to stick sometimes I just re-cock the gun fully all the way till it stops and then put the breech back in the firing position ... this works for me. Sometimes the mechanism seems to get stuck, especially if the gun is new and the stamped parts are a bit rough.

Just tweaking things a bit. I'm shooting a Hawke 6-24x Vantage with side focus. It's a really good scope for the money. I like the low profile target turrets. They are re settable with the use of a small phillips screwdriver. I hadn't seen this mentioned in any of the product literature. The scope is crystal clear and totally repeatable. I'm planning one for my Talon in the near future.

I splurged and bought the metal lens covers from Hawke. I'm glad I did because I really like this scope.

"jamieinmd"Which pin are you talking about ? It seems to have straightened out but if it acts up, I'm taking your advise. I am easily hitting a 1 in swinger at 55 yards using sized CPHPs.. I have a newer gun with the blade type safety.

This site has the description of what to do, I did it on all my Condors .. they all not now can be de-cocked if need be, IMHO a must when out in the field. Safety is now manual so you must re set it every time you cock the gun (gun can be cocked with safety off)... no big deal for me. You must also be sure to close the breech fully.

These are all common sense things. If you have any doubts about your skill level, don't do them, stay with a stock gun.

Can't figure it out. My Talon and Condor SS will NOT shoot a JSB pellet well at all but the CPHPs shoot ragged holes in both guns. I have tried sizing the JSBs, different weights and tuning the velocity up and down but the CPHPs ALWAYS out shoot the JSBs in these two guns. It just baffles me a bit is all. The CPHPs are half the price of the JSBs but not quite up to the quality of the JSBs. The JSBs are definitely a softer lead than the CPHPs. I guess the Walther barrels need a harder lead ? Like I said, it just don't make sense.
