AirForce Airguns Texan .50 cal + Lehigh Defense Airgun Ammo = Copper Carnage!

Lehigh Defense is launching CNC'd copper ammo options made specifically for big bore airguns and my early testing turned me from a doubter to a believer! I am seeing this ammo demonstrate terminal ballistic results I had only imagined possible.

This new Lehigh offering for airguns has been engineered to be a controlled fracturing hunting slug that is basically a copper frag grenade once it hits the internals of a game animal. When I first saw this, I was skeptical due to the loss of mass the slug would have once the petals were deployed resulting in poor penetration. Holy crap was I ever wrong!

I was also skeptical that shooting a pure copper slug from an airgun could actually generate any real velocity. Again - I was WRONG! Lehigh Defense has engineered their way around the two issues that have historically made shooting copper slugs from big bore airguns a viable option.

These aren't paper punchers and are definitely Gucci ammo options for airgunners for sure, but when it is "go time" come Deer season, this just might be the premium tool to put venison in the freezer.

Rumor has it these will be available soon through some of our favorite dealers in the airgunner community just in time for the 2020 Deer Hunting Season. Stay tuned!

Do you do any kind of "normal" reloading?

There is a "new" (10+ years old) thing called hBN (hexa Boron Nitride) which is a fine white powder that is amazing at reducing friction and fouling on high speed bullets in firearms.

Typically it adds 5-8% speed for the same pressure.

Might just add a little something at the top end on those babies ;-)

Keep up the fine work!

Great idea! I just ordered a kit to give it a try: https://www.bulletcoatings.com/product/hex-boron-nitride-hbn-powder-barrel-bore-kit/

Those Lehigh defense bullets look amazing. I’m just getting into big bore air rifle hunting for deer hunting and this looks like it would be perfect. It seems like they are a little hard to find these days so I am really hoping Lehigh continues to make them in the future especially since Lehigh just got acquired by Wilson Combat. Graf and sons says they have them in their website but it says they are .50 cal and doesn’t say .510 i am assuming they are actually .510 like the ones you tested? The Lehigh defense website does say .500 for actual size so that is a little confusing. I don’t think I have seen anyone else talking about shooting them out of any other airgun.

I think I’m just going to put in an order and see if they work since I am really trying to go lead free and these look deadlier than anything lead in an case. The only downside is the cost but I’m not going to be target shooting with them just have to tune, chronograph and site them in and go hunting.

Thanks for the video and all the info upnorthairgunner I don’t think I would have found out about these without seeing your videos.

has anyone used that boron nitride on an airgun shooting lead and seen any better chrony results?
Graphite would also work and is a better lubricant than Boron nitride. Boron nitride is better at high temperatures but for airguns I think graphite would be the better choice given it’s cheaper and easier to find.
