Air Venturi Avenger - Jamming Issue

Re-posted from: Watch/Review/Win to get more eyes and hopefully more suggestions.

I received my .177 last Friday, topped it off with a new helix. I am loving the rifle but have run into an issue I wanted to run by you guys and maybe get some advice. The rifle jams intermittently when using the 10 shot factory magazine. Has probably happened 4 or 5 times over the past couple days.

During normal re-cocking the pellet probe appears to hit a wall while pushing the pellet into the breach. I am unable to complete the loading and the magazine gets stuck with half the pellet in the breach and the rest hung up on the magazine. I literally have to force the magazine out, which shears the pellet in half while pushing on the side of the mag.

Has anyone else run into this issue? I imagine the larger calibers would be impossible to get free.

Can anyone think of a better way to free the Marauder style magazine from the breach? Or trick to avoid the jamming issue entirely?

I have seen it in 177 Libertys, the pre-curser to the Avenger. Also, others have reported it. Seems to mainly be 177. I didn’t find anything obvious, like too tight or loose mag, but switched to mrod mag and it went away. The OEM mags from NV are junk and most run Gauntlet mags. I saw the issue with Gautlet mags, before swapping to mrod. The down side is the mrod has sharper edges on revolver that can wear out the bolt probe O-rings quicker. Try gauntlet mag then mrod.

Thank you for the suggestions/advice.

I just ordered a couple: Benjamin .177-Caliber Auto-Indexing Multi-Shot Pellet Magazine RC7710

Hopefully they preform better. I'm using the single shot tray until they get here.

Has anyone used CARM Marauder Magazines? I have some of his magazines for a P-15 and they have been flawless. So I am thinking that may be the way to go if the Marauder Mag will work on the Avenger.

You're probably using the 7.9gr Crosman Premier Hollowpoints? They are pretty short for the magazines and may be going in the breech sideways. You can try longer pellets or using pledge to lube the pellets because it sounds like the next round is riding against the pellet pushing probe as you cock flipping the pellet sideways in the process of cycling and closing the bolt home. Pay attention watch it as you cock and close that bolt home through the clear magazine cover. Pledge spray Lemon scent spray the pellets well then dry then load in magazine. Maybe some lube drops of pledge on the probe too so it won't hang the pellets when cycling.

Here is the link to the CARM magazines I am thinking of giving a try: https://www.carm-magazines.com/detalji_proizvoda.a8c53a0d4fb1499cb8959ca1e47f4e25.magazine-for-benjamin-armada-marauder-umarex-gauntlet-nova-freedom-in-177-cal.aspx

The Single shot tray works well and no issues with cycling. So far the pellet of choice has been JSB Exact Heavy (10.34gr.)

I'll give the Lemon Pledge a go, still have some of that around from when I used it to dress the tires on the Jeep.

Thank you for the suggestions!

If you give those Carm mags a try, please post a review. I haven't seen any feedback on their Marauder style magazines anywhere as of it.

I'm set to receive a Liberty in .177 from ATI any day now. I'll probably order a Benjamin mag from Amazon just in case I have this particular issue, which seems common place with the Nova Vista guns in .177.

The ones I've seen posted were 22. The strange thing is, there is nothing different on the package that they are for use on the SAM. Looks identical to the old packaging.

A crosman rep replied today about that discussion. Sounds like there was a packaging mistake.

The Mags with the single hole are for the new SAM. We did not change the Mrod mags to this new cover and have both in stock. It looks like some SAM mags were packed in Mrod packs. From my testing the new mags work great in the bolt gun.

Update!! The Benjamin Marauder Magazines arrived today. They are working great, haven't had a single jam running 2 mags through 5 cycles apiece.

Much better than the magazines included with the rifle that struggled to get through 1 cycle of 10 shots.

I appreciate all the tips and of course the suggestion to go with the Marauder's.

You guys rock!

This literally just happened to me! Mine is a 4-day Old .22 Avenger wood stock. Since it arrived I haven't been able to put it down and haven't even looked at my other 6 pcp's and break barrels. After breakfast I went downstairs to finish testing my "butter lite tune" (1100 reg, +1 hammer, 14.4 pellet, avg 18.2 fpe). Anyway the 3rd shot went way off missing target (did I double load?). Anyway when the mag ended I switched to the next mag and hit the wall like you indicated. I was devastated. I have a older barrel cleaner I don't use anymore because it is stiff with a wire brush on the end... I figured I could use this to force the pellet back towards the Mag. It was too short to reach. I had several crazy ideas but refuse to damage my beautiful new pellet on pellet gun. Out of desperation I put a firm Push on the pellet probe Which forced another pellet into the barrel. It took 2 shots to dislodge the pellets. There seemed to be at least 2 pellets in breach. I have noticed this gun will allow you to double load if you don't pay attention. I don't think this was the case this time but I've had it happened at least twice. It has always been my plan to order a carm mag which I am going to do right now. Good luck
