Im new to PCP's and trying to figure out the best way to air up my gun. I bought a tank today off of ebay but the valve is plastic. I was thinking it would be metal. Should I use this?

Valve KNOB is plastic but valve housing itself appears to be metal. If you're talking about the cap on top of pressure gauge it's not unusual for those to be plastic. In fact every one of my 5 tanks have plastic caps on top of gauge. Looks like a little black paint is chipped off just under right side of gauge in 1st picture & it sure looks like metal under that black paint. I wouldn't sweat it. In almost 30 yrs of working with SCBA tanks I can't EVER recall seeing a plastic valve housing. Plastic components, yes but housing, NO.

Take it to a certified fill station (such as a SCUBA shop) and have them check it out. It was manufactured in ‘15 so if it’s hasn’t had a hydro test since new, it will need one. They should be able to qualify the quality of the valve.

Look up CGA347 fill adapter on Ebay. You don't have to spend a lot. More expensive doesn't always equate to better. Been using my inexpensive Ebay ones for 4 years now. Just make sure it's a 6,000psi rated hose, preferably microbore. That link is showing the INCORRECT fitting for your type of tank. Don't order! CGA347! Your bottle appears to have a 03/2015 date on it so it will definitely require a hydro test. If possible, you should shop around to get the best price as it can vary quite a bit and some include the fill, in the fee and some don't.

Great that you got a tank but how do you plan on filling it? Tanks are great but they don't last long so hopefully you have the filling aspect figured out. I use the stikman from ATP great fill system for the SCBA tanks.

Hydrotesting needs to be done every 5 years. Average cost should be around $35. Being your tank was manufactured in 2015 you have until 2030 before shops won't fill anymore (you'll probably have gotten a compressor by then). Don't know what "napairgunner" meant by they don't last long.

Once you've had the tank hydro'd (& hopefully, filled for the 1st time) go to a local Fire Station & see if they might be kind enough to fill it for you. Some people on the forum have said they do that with their local FD.

I did find out its a good valve. I was thinking that the threads were plastic but they are metal so all good. The tank is new just old stock. its in new contition.

NO safety concerns on that valve. I talked to my fire equipment distributor. Here's very familiar with those tanks & says the valves are 8,000 psi working pressure rated & wouldn't be on those tanks if they weren't safe. (Don't listen to those who are just ASSUMING they're not)
