Air Arms TX200 Arrived

My understanding is you can add the spacer washer to increase power as long as the spring doesn't go solid. My PG2-SHO kit gave me around 15 fpe from my TX with the 8.44 JSB Exact pellets. Assuming you will get about the same energy from your .22, I ran some numbers using the HAM data for the H&N FTT Green. At the pellet weight of 10.03 grains muzzle velocity will be about 820 fps. With a zero of 35 yards, you would be within 1/2" from 10 to almost 40 yards which I think is perfect for hunting.

The Baracuda Green would be another interesting one to try. It is heavier at 12.35 grains, and at the same energy velocity is less at 740 fps. But because of its higher BC, once zeroed for 35 yards the Baracuda will give almost the same trajectory as the FTT Green, yet retain a little more energy downrange.

Thanks for this!

I know folks recommend the rifle be shot a few hundred to 1,000 shots before I go tinkering. I might do that, even though I've bought the tuning kit (it hasn't arrived yet). Because I have no idea if this rifle is as "smooth" as it can be, because of my near zero experience with springers, I'm tempted to just do the innards swap and see what I get.

I am absolutely satisfied with the smoothness and lack of twang in this rifle as is. If I had never heard of these kits, I would be very satisfied as is. But, when I read the kit makes the rifle 'a thousand times" smoother', etc. It is very enticing.

I love my Steyr Hunter Scout and LP50HP (pistol), the semi-auto function is so cool and fun. But, and I know it is weird, this TX is so fun because I feel more a part of the shot, and more ownership of the results.

I purchased, and received, but have yet to install the springs from JM. Both the FAC lower power and also the higher power spring that Jim offers seem nice! I’m going to wait till warmer weather arrives and I can get outdoors to a longer range to see the group results of the factory spring, before I swap it out.

I purchased my new to me LH TX200 on the secondary market. So I don’t know the number of pellets through it, but I do not believe it is that many because of condition being 9.9 of 10. My guess is less than a tin. Interesting that the LH versions of this rifle has a left handed breech too (which in turn hide the 3 notches in the breech cover that engage the anti-bear trap mechanism 🙂)

I wish you good results in your experimenting

Today a HW77K Special Edition arrived from AOA. It is a .22 and the green forest camp laminate. I cleaned the barrel and shot 3 shots at close range. I'll shoot more tomorrow and take some pictures. Without shooting them side by side (until tomorrow) the HW feels less smooth and a bit more twangy at the shot than the TX200, also in .22.

I didn't need this HW but the price was right and I've never owned an HW.

Beautiful rifle though.

I wasn’t too pleased with the shot cycle and hold sensitivity of the TX200 FAC spring or piston in my gun. Felt like I was shooting a firearm. Installed the lower energy Jim Maccari spring and could get decent groups (thumbtack size at 20 yards in the backyard) but still the hold sensitivity bothered me as it really took some work to achieve them

A month or so ago, I decided to throw more money at the TX and ordered the 22mm kit from Tony L in the UK. When it arrived, Steve H. seemed like the best individual for the installation and tuning since he had documented installs of this kit plus I do not own a chronograph. So for the past few weeks my TX has been down. Sent the action back East to Steve to have the trigger assembly polished and set (7 ounces) and the 22mm piston kit installed and tuned ( 11.5 fpe). I have gotten the action back from Steve and reinstalled it into my stock. Indoors, at short distance, I was able to put the first 4 pellets that I shot right through the exact same hole, pulled the fifth, then the sixth was back though the previous single hole. Accuracy I couldn’t achieve with the stock piston/spring OR the JM 12fpe spring

Im really pleased with the reduced felt recoil too (the 22mm piston is tiny) cocking effort is a non issue and silky smooth thanks to Steve

I just sold the Hawke Airmax scope I had on top in anticipation of the Bushnell Match Pro to be released, as that is the scope I would like to buy. Then out to an indoor range to sight it in and see what it can do at 25-50 yard distances.
